He turned the equation into a (a - b)(c - d) = f type equation where b, d and f are constants.
For the division part, understand that we have (x - 6)(y - 3).
@crystal tiger I understand all of that, but I don't know how 18 = 2*3^2 results in 2*2*3
(x - 6) and (y - 3) both need to be factors of 18.
So they both need to be either 1, 2, 3, 6, 9, 18.
They can also be the negative versions.
So if (x - 6) is let's say 6 then x = 12 and (y - 3) should be equal to 3 hence y = 6.
There are 12 different values for (x - 3) so there are 12 different x values and 12 different y values.
