In my drosophila lab, we are starting to learn about UAS and GAL4 crosses. From my understanding, the GAL4 gene produces a transcription factor for a target gene that is tagged with UAS. Then, the target gene is expressed in a different spot than in wildtypes. So, if we cross a UAS-ey to a dpp-GAL4, are we attempting to push the development of eyes in unnatural spots than the wildtype?
