I just spend the past 1 hour and 20 minutes. Studying linear equations. And I still don't know how to solve this question. Can someone explain to me how to solve it?

What? Not sure what that even means.

@rapid relic What do you mean? Is it the wrong answer? thonk

rapid relic

Now try expressing p.

@rapid relic Here's my notes on what I got. Can you explain to me what I did wrong?

rapid relic
#

I don't know what you even mean by 1 (2p = 1), to be honest.

#

That isn't an equation, that doesn't really make any sense.

@rapid relic What do you mean?thonk I did What you told me do? I divided 3 by all the numbers in equation. And the result 1 (2p=1)

I clearly got the question wrong. Why can't you tell me how I got it wrong. So I can correct my answer? concerned 😕

What I meant is divide both sides by 3.
3(6p + 1) divided by 3 is 6p + 1.
3 divided by 3 is 1.
So, 3(6p + 1) = 3 becomes 6p + 1 = 1.

Okay I got it. Thoughts feed back? @rapid relic

rapid relic
#

Well, not 100% sure what you wrote to the side, but 6p + 1 = 1 is correct.
Now try expressing p.

fallen forum
rapid relic

Well, first of all, subtract 1 from both sides.

fallen forum
#

I subtracted 1 from both sides?

#

And this what I got.

rapid relic
#

No.

#

How did the coefficient of p change?

#

We have:
6p + 1 = 1
We subtract 1 from both sides.
6p + 1 - 1 = 1 - 1
6p = 0

#

So, now you just divide by 6 to get p.

#

Hm... You really need to read up on how to do this. It appears you forgot nearly everything.
I recommend reading a textbook and doing some practice problems.

Oh. Well, then you need practice.

@rapid relic And a good teacher/tutor. When it comes to math, self teaching is a bad idea for me. It never worked.

rapid relic
#

That's true, yeah. A good teacher is always better.

fallen forum
#

I'm I supposed to divide. The 6p by itself?

#

@rapid relic

rapid relic
#

No, divide both parts by 6.

fallen forum
#

Here the results.

@rapid relic

rapid relic
#

What happened to 0?

fallen forum
#

Is it spposed to be 1p=0?

rapid relic
#

Yes. Though, usually we omit the 1 if we are mutliplying it by a variable. So, just p = 0.
