I managed fine but on b I got -12 < k < 12 but the answer was either k < -12 or k > 12
My question is how can I tell the different of which to use of the two answers listed above

k^2 > 144 is correct, but you didn't solve it correctly. Use the method of intervals if you can't remember which case is which.

Usually I just see if its a positive x or negative x graph and then just imagine the shape of the graph if it will be connected or not connected
