- To see whether the rows are linearly independent, you can either bring the matrix to REF and check whether you get an upper triangular matrix, or check whether the determinant is nonzero.
- Well, here they already ask you to use Gauss-Jordan. I usually prefer Gauss, so use whichever you like more.
