Photo attached, got no clue on how to do these. Our teacher refuses to post material online and mostl ikely will end up in a class complaint but I still need to learn eitherway.

hmm

#

multiply the numerators then the denominators like any other fractions

#

then multiply both numerator and denominator by the same factor of 10 to make it an integer

#

if u do the same factor of 10 both up and down it has no effect

safe ore
#

im struggling sm with this. We arent even allowed calculators

#

I will try that and see

#

when you say multiply do you mean across, left to right?

#

as in normal multiplying of fractions @hazy patio

hazy patio
#

multiplying normal fractions is like just multiply the numerators then multiply the denominators

#

do the same

#

here

safe ore
#

so rn I've got 3.99 / 1.188

#

so multiply both by 10

#

that would give 39.9, so would I need to multiply by 100?

hazy patio
#

yes

#

but actually 1000

#

because u need the numerator to be 1188 too and not 118.8

safe ore
#

Im trying to do this without a calc so just give me a few

#

I dont understand how to do that manualyl but I suppose its just common knowledge to times it by 1000 to make them whole numbers

#

so then 399/1188

#

how tf would I somplify lol. Divide them in half on their own first?

hazy patio
#

yes so thats it

#

u need to simplify by factors, brute force

safe ore
#

youll have to forgive me man, not sure what you even mean by that

#

I know sometimes you have to estimate

#

our teacher is whack so doing my best

hazy patio
#

oh its alright

#

u know how to find factors of a number?

#

using the table thing

safe ore
#

like, lowest common etc?

hazy patio
#

yes

#

find the highest common

safe ore
#

Kind of, good with low numbers but with these bigger numbers I wouldnt know where to start aside 2 or 3

#

but ive always done lowest so I may need to learn

hazy patio
#

yup, youre supposed to start at 2 or 3 and work your way up

safe ore
#

but they both have to match so like, how would yo ueven work that out

#

is it 199?

hazy patio
#

the hcf? no

safe ore
#

I cant even divide it by half cos its a 199.5

#

and we arent doing remainders

#

im lost my friend

#

sorry

hazy patio
#

hmm im pretty sure u can let it be as is

#

and leave it as 399/1188

#

or like do by 3 atleast

safe ore
#

ill try

#

3 works

#

133

#

133/396

#

which is also the simpliest form

hazy patio
#

hmm thats it i think

safe ore
#

my course is Prep. for Health and Nurse studies

#

I cant even fathom why I need to know this

#

I did a semester of Uni to get accepted for the coruse I want to do, and this "lower level" course its insanely harder

#

I must say thank you though man. I am going to try a few mroe and will message if I need help

hazy patio
#

alr

#

if its done then u can close the thread later

safe ore
#

I will mate, thank you. WIll I still be avle to see the thread?

hazy patio
#

after closing? no

#

u can let it be if u want

safe ore
#

I got another one, I just need to know when to stop

#

So say if I kept diving it by half to simplify and then I got to a number that didnt work. Then my last answer would be the most simple one

#

dividing*

hazy patio
#

no

#

suppose the fraction 9/15

#

u can simplify it by 3 but not by 2

safe ore
#

and its that just knowledge on odd/even numbers right?

#

Ive yet to get that in my head, like if the number ends in a 0/23

#

0 or 2 *

hazy patio
#

yes then its evebn

safe ore
#

so it owuld be a divide by a 2

#

but if it ends on an odd number, by 3?

hazy patio
#

yes

hazy patio
safe ore
#

can you clarify that?

#

like how do you mean

#

with the no part

hazy patio
#

hmm

#

because if it ends with 3

#

its odd

#

meaning 2 is not its facyor

#

so dividing by it will always give something .5

safe ore
#

okay so wha would I divide it by to simplify. If it ends in an odd number?

hazy patio
#

it depends on the denominator and if it has common factors

safe ore
#

ah okay so theres more to it
