Deimos gave this answer, Idk how they got to that
if a system of two linear equations has one solution, what do you expect to see on a graph when you plot both lines at once?
Both points being on the same line
But every I time I plug in 2(0) or y(0), it gives me two seperate lines
no
you expect to see two lines with different slopes crossing once at a certain point
if a system has no solutions, what do you expect to see when you plot the lines?
Parallel to each other ?
yes
but more than that: they will be parallel AND will not cross ever
they will have the same slope, but different intercepts
do you follow?
I got two intersecting lines for my answer, yet Deimos told me it was same line
I follow
Both points on same line? I'm confused. Cause if they're both on the same plane, wouldn't that mean infinite?
if you have infinite solutions, you expect that the lines will meet at infinite points
this would only be possible if both lines were sitting at exactly the same spot on the plane
and this would mean the lines are equal
does it make sense?
you would see a single line if you were to plot both at once
because one would be right "under" the other
I get it
Both on same plane. But then the points are decimals, which My Lab won't let me. So I'm trying to figure out the points, but I keep getting intersecting lines instead
the lines merged into one
what does it mean for the number of solutions of the system?
and btw how did you end up with this plot?
I replaced x or y with 0 & 1 to get the point
what point?
y+2x=-1
I got (1,-3) and (0,-1)
ok. this is right.
what about the other line?
-4x-2y=2
(0,3) (1,-3)
But this one confuses me
Cause sometimes I get a fraction and this isn't asking me to do run/rise
this is not right.
the equation is -4x-2y=2
what happens when you substitute x=0?
0-2y=2
y=-1
good
so one point contained in this line is (0,-1)
now if you do x=1, what happens?
They are finally on same line
Thank you
