My calculator is saying -3 ^2 is -9... how? It's being multiplied byitself, why is it not 9?

when you enter it into the calculator, make sure you have the parentheses included as well!

(-3)^2 = 9 because -3 x -3 = 9

-3^2 = -9 because -(3^2) = -(9) = -9
