theres no nice way to solve analytically unless u wanna use the cubic formula which is nasty

i was about to offer synthetic division but there is no integer root

use that before trying cubic formula

in general when you're solving cubics, use the following methods:

  1. first try algebraic manipulation to see if you can factor the expression
  2. then try picking factors of the x^0 term and plugging them in to see if any of them are a root of the equation. if so, you can use synthetic division to break it down to a quadratic equation
  3. if nothing above works, use cubic formula
