New thing for me / I forgot if I ever knew this
As Mr PDF said, the arrow means the line EB and line segment (side of triangle ACD) are parallel
So we know that when 2 parallel lines/line segment (EB and CD in this case) are cut by another line (AB in this case), they subtend equal angle where the 3rd line cuts the parallel ones
In this case, ang(AEB) = ang(ADC) for the same reason
And also, ang(ABE) = ang(ACD) for the same reason.
Now we have 2 angles for both the ∆AEC & ∆ADC
Hence by AA similiarity theorem, both triangles are similar
