@hybrid tapir đ
I don't really understand what it's asking for
I think it's asking for the 2nd to last sentence:
"...the barrel finally contains..."
It's asking us for how much water, in litres is left in the barrel
it also states that the amount of water left in the barrel at the end is equal to a fraction of the capacity of a bottle
the answer is 0.5 litres
But I have to find this out using fractions?
Do I just use 26/1.5=x+0.5
It does make use of fractions but, it also uses decimal points. The question says I âcanât use decimal number expressionsâ
you can't use this either way because 0.5l is the answer
you can;t use it in ur solution
Hmmm
0.5l is what you are trying to work towards
Itâs easy to get the answer but I canât figure out how to explain it using fractions
well id say u have to use logic
26/3/2 = x
x=52/3
the number of times 3 can be divided into 52 is 17
so there are 17 people
17.333
@calm nimbus basically have to answer many 3/2 can you fit in 26. And what fraction of the bottle is the water that remains.
yes but you wouldn;t say there are 17.333 people
you would solve for number of times the bottle was completely filled then find out how much water was left. x = number of times bottle was filled, y= leftover water. x=52/3, y= 52/3x
if I understand correctly then the working should be like this:
26/(3/2) = 52/3 â 17 hikers
26-17Ă(3/2) = 1/2 litres (water left in barrel)
26x2/3 = 52/3 = 17+1/3 rounded to 17
17x1.5=25.5, 25.5-26= 1/52 of water left
Wait wut
They both mean the same thing, you can take the negative and turn it to a positive for the sake of the equation
I can rewrite it like that though yes
no
26-25.5=1/2 not 1/52
you wouldn't say I have negative 0.5l
@calm nimbus it is 1/3 of the bottle therefore 1/3*3/2=1/2
Iâll take your word for it
Even still, I canât use any decimals
So Iâm good up until 17x1.5
17 x 3/2 = 51/52?
You have to interpret what you write 17 +1/3 means 17 whole bottles + 1/3 of a bottle
Yeah
Would this be correct?
no
Aaaaaaaaaa
51/2
Oh thatâs good
Alright
I have one more question on this assignment
Also worded
@calm nimbus What was you answer to that (just to make sure)
I mean the previous problem
26 x 2/3 = 52/3 = 17+1/3 rounded to 17.
17 x 3/2 = 51/52
51/2 where 2 is equal to 1 litre.
The remaining water is equal to half a litre.
@sinful burrow
,rotate
136000 = x + 3x/5 + (3x/5)^2 + (3x/5)^3
@calm nimbus Ok that is right but from 26/(3/2)=52/3=17+1/3 you can straight up say 17 whole bottles where filled and 1/3 of a bottle remains. So 1/3 of a bottle=1/3*(3/2)=1/2 litres
solve for x then sub x into (3x+5)^3
for your answer
I could have shortened it yes, but I had already written stuff and didnât feel like crossing off half of the question response area
Also thank you very much
Thank you all
also I have no idera how to solve that
@calm nimbus has given 1 rep to @clever flint
but it is the equation
Thank you
I donât think this is written correctly
Are you sure?
1360000 = x + 3x/5 + (3x/5)^2 + (3x/5)^3
I wrote plus 5 it should of been over 5
Oh haha
anyways according to this website, this is the answer
Was it the +5 on both examples?
here I wrote the correct equation
I see, thank you
@clever flint
Any idea why itâs not working? Have I written something wrong but donât see it?
the website you're using might not be able solve questions like these
Symbolab: equation search and math solver - solves algebra, trigonometry and calculus problems step by step
both these websites arrive at the correct answer
I can't show you how to solve it because I haven't learnt how to solve these types of equations
Ah, right
maybe just wait for someone to help
alright
