I assume point D is the perpendicular from C to AB?
B/c it seems like they used the formula A=bh/2 to find the area of the triangle

First, you need to find the slope/gradient of the perpendicular. You can use the fact that the slopes/gradients of perpendicular lines multiply to -1 to find the slope/gradient of the perpendicular
Now, you can find the equation of the perpendicular since you also have a point on it (namely the vertex C)
