I need help with my geometry problem, I know it's easy but I am dumb

We know that E = Γ , ΔΕ = 5 , ΒΓ= 15 and ΔΒ = 12, we are trying to find x and y which x +y = 12
Pls help

x+y = 12
y = 12-x
5/15 = (12-x)/x
solve for x, then from there you can get y

But if we do x/y = 3/1 we get 3y = x so how did you get this

That AB is longer

as you said x = 3y
AB = x = 3y
AD = y
so AB is obviously longer
