#make forums for each branch of math instead of seperating it into school and university

Well, while that's a good idea, many people misused the branches somewhat, I believe. Not everyone knows what they are dealing with, unfortunately.
also tags exist
I know there are tags but most people don't use them and I do not blame them
until you are FORCED to add a tag on post creation I don't really see them as a replacement for this
that's probably a better alternative aswell; I only didn't suggest it because I'm not sure if it's possible to do with a bot or discord provided setting 🤷♀️
Oh, actually, forced tags sound nice.
You will be able to select multiple, too.
Not all problems fall neatly into just one branch, after all.
Yeah forced tags would really fix everything, and maybe allow moderators to close posts that have blatantly incorrect tags that are clearly wrong not because the person is confused but because they're just lazy
Well, closing sounds too harsh. But manually correcting? Sure.
permanent ban for misputting a tag sounds funny
I only lack the sympathy for those who do things like this because the people lazily creating posts are never the people who help others lol
it's the people who blindly post their homework
Well, yeah. Ideally, people would post their efforts first.
But that usually doesn't happen...
having your post closed also isn't that bad of a punishment, you can reopen it with the correct tag, I figure the inconvenience of having to re-post will be enough to ensure someone actually uses the tags correctly in the future (or tries to)
anyway this is beyond the point; I think forced tags are a good alternative if possible
Oh, sorry. I didn't exactly know what you meant by "closed", I thought it was closer to "deleted". In that case, fine, but there needs to be a message on why it is closed, otherwise people might not understand.
totally
I imagine you'd be able to setup some sort of command that a moderator can do that privates the post and pings the creator informing them that they need to reevaluate their tags
why would you private the post tho
so they don't just ignore the message lmao
incentive I suppose but maybe that's just me being ultra uncharitable to the average hypothetical rule breaker
I just don't see why the post wouldn't be made private since keeping it public leaves room for the event that some person comes in and helps them before they feel the need to change it
and changing it is so easy
hmm
like if this was anything else I'd understand but personally I think using the correct tags is super easy and really beneficial
as someone who self studies I found being able to browse a channel specific to what I was studying in the old thread system really beneficial
even if it was dead posts from earlier in the day
thank you holy spirit
i can add that
I think this warrants further discussion.
The "forced" part, I mean.
it''s rather simple actually
there's a feature for that
so that you have to select at least one tag publish the post
otherwise it just doesn't work
thing is, a lot of people would indeed select the wrong thing or just the general category
which would lead to a lot of corrections
and also it'd grow less effective the more time passes
so like, if a person posts a post about algebra, but really it's about trigonometry and geometry
it'd be shown in the wrong category until someone fixes it
but after 2-3 days it's not really that useful anymore
sure, someone might browse through old questions, but it's not quite common
Even if all that is added is forced tags and more encouragement to use the correct tags that'd be nice
because I'm sure forced tags would fix 99% of the problem, I suppose there will always be the 1% who incorrectly tags
i bet it won't be 1%, it'd be closer to 20%
but sure, we can always try
@dire bane does that seem reasonable?
Yeah, I suppose.
Though, there probably needs to be an announcement in #announcements .
Why is that? It's not a huge deal
It just means you can't post without selecting a tag
Well, just for the sake of documentation, I guess.
Right
