You need to make either x or y the same
If you take a look which one would be easier to multiply to make them the same
It can be negative and positive though (e.g. -4x +4x)
That’s acceptable
Why didn’t you just multiply the top one?
By doing this you create more work for you to do
It’s a common mistake dont worry
Okay
Also if you have +3x and -3x
What would you need to do to make it 0
Add or subtract
Plus
Do I plus 3x onto 2x
I'm not sure i just thought because 2x in te question
By 3?
Hi
Why did you do 27x
I sort of understand
I dont know what to do after you times it by 2
Okay
You have 2x + 3y = 20
So
2x + 3y = 20
5x -6y = 23
That’s the question
If you take a look at Y
Its 3 and 6
You can multiply 3 by 2 to get 6
9x = 63
So you’re left with 4x = 40 and 5x = 23
Exactly
So you want x by itself
So you want to rearrange the question
Do I divide by 9
X = 7
Now put that into the easiest equation between these two
Substitute x for 7
So 14 + 3y = 20
20 - 14
3y = 6
y = 2
Thank you so much
You can put that into the other equation to doublecheck
5x7 - 6x2 = 23
35 - 12 = 23
Done
Thank you
My pleasure
Have a good day/night
I have a maths mock exam tomorrow so this helped
You too
Good luck
