Oh

Now something that I don’t really understand

#

3/4x -6=16

#

4/3*3/4 right?

#

then on the other side 16*4/3

Then solve for x

wintry sonnet
#

3/4x-6=16
+6 | +6
3/4x=22

*4 | *4
This What you mean?

#

@shell parrot

wintry sonnet
#

Wait what?

#

By 4x?

#

That’s how it should look, but I don’t get it

shell parrot
#

Yes so once you add 6 you can also multiply both sides by the reciprocal

#

You have (3/4)x and the reciprocal of 3/4 is 4/3 and by multiplying by the reciprocal, you get 1. So (4/3)(3/4)x = x

#

So multiply both sides by the reciprocal then you get x = 22*(4/3)

wintry sonnet
#

4x3 3x4

#

I know I do 22x4/3 on the right side

shell parrot

#

Waittt

#

I just put 4x3 and it’s gone

#

Right?

#

On the left side

shell parrot
#

Ah I will expand it out more

#

(3/4)*(4/3) = 12/12 = 1

#

Does that make more sense ?

wintry sonnet
#

Is that 12x2
(3/4)x(4/3)

#

Multiply?

shell parrot
#

Yes so when you do that, you’re left with just x

wintry sonnet

shell parrot
#

$\frac{4}{3}*\frac{3}{4}x$

which equals $\frac{12}{12}x$

wise hamletBOT
shell parrot
#

then the $12$ and $12$ cancel and you are left with $x$

wise hamletBOT
shell parrot
#

i think this makes it visually more understandable

no division involved its just multiplication. when you multiply two fractions you multiply straight across top and bottom

wintry sonnet
shell parrot
#

i see. you see how the numerator and the denominator are both the same?

#

that means its 1

wintry sonnet
#

They are same when competing them to each other

shell parrot
#

yeah i was just showing you that when you multiply a fraction by its reciprocal you get 1

wintry sonnet
#

Weird

#

Well thank you for the help!
