I understand that this formula is used to calculate the derivative of a function, but i want to know where this comes from?

can you elaborate?

$(a+b)^n=\sum_{k=0}^{n} \binom{n}{k}a^{n-k}b^k$

and you should know...

#

$\dv{y}{x}=\lim_{h\to 0} \frac{f(x+h)-f(x)}{h}$

f(x)=x^n
so you get (x+h)^n which you may simplify using binomial theorem

#

will you try it now @earnest ridge

?
