#Crash seemingly randomly with no logs generated

Overview:
Steam version 1.2-1240.
Crash happens in both single player and multiplayer but seems to happen more frequently in multiplayer. I have no crash logs generated (please see attached picture). The game appears to just exit with no crash report window or error log. The only reason I think it is a crash is because Windows Event Viewer shows that crashhandler64.dll is listed as a "faulting module." I verified integrity of game files and reinstalled crashhandler64.dll and no change to behavior.

Reproduction Steps:
Unsure. I have not been able to identify a single action. It has crashed at the end of the day as well as mid-day. It has crashed while doing actions and also while idling. Singleplayer and multiplayer as described earlier.

Reproduction Rate:
In multiplayer I crash at least once per day. In singleplayer it seems to be once every 2-4 days.

#

Oh, I meant to add that I have watched cutscenes on both single and multiplayer with no crashes, but one of the crashes was during a cutscene in multiplayer.
Additionally, I meet minimum requirements for the game and it is installed on an SSD.

Well, it's difficult to capture video due to the random nature of it. I will try when I have time though

Never with any mods and no cutscenes have preceded some of the crashes and some cutscenes have preceded some of the crashes. Also, since the most recent update, I no longer get a crash dialogue and no crash logs

I did some testing; It seemed like I was crashing around 16-17:00 every day., so I turned on the game and just stayed compeltely still. It crashed between 17 and 18:00

#

I had 2-3 crashes tonight just from playing regularly and as mentioned they were all around 16-17:00 but I don't think theyu were all at the exact same time.

#

Unfortunately I remain stuck on Day 2

Per my previous messages it happens whether standing completely still in the room and not performing any actions. I crash somewhere around 16:00-18:00

Could you share your in-game graphic preset settings and the specifications of your device, including details such as the CPU, GPU, RAM, and HDD/SSD? You can check how to do it here: https://techguided.com/how-to-check-your-computer-specs/

Tech Guided

In this easy-to-follow guide, we'll walk you step-by-step through how to quickly check your computer's specs (CPU, GPU, motherboard, & RAM).

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D 8-Core Processor, 4700 Mhz, 8 Core(s), 16 Logical Processor(s)

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080

RAM: 64 GBs

SSDs: one 2 TB NVMe (WD Black SN850X, one 4 TB NVMe (WD Black SN850X) and one 4 TB SSD (generic brand), one 1 TB SSD (Samsung SSD 970 Pro)

My graphics preset is Epic but the crash happens even when set to very low and at every setting in between. I have only ever insstalled the game on my 2 NVMe drives.

Hello, I just tried a new game and it crashed at 15:50 but I think it was likely when it was changing to 16:00

Still no logs unfortunately. I'm sorry, I wish I could be more helpful. I have been trying to clear up space on my disk so I can record it happening.

Whenever you’re able to record it, feel free to share it with us, but no rush. Clearing some disk space first is totally fine ^^

In the meantime, could you try switching to DirectX 11 to see if it helps with the crashes?

  • Launch the Steam client on your PC.
  • Click on the Library tab to view your games.
  • Find Coral Island in your game list, right-click it, and select Properties.
  • In the General tab, look for the Launch Options field.
  • Type the following into the Launch Options box: -dx11
  • You can now close the game’s properties.
  • To ensure the change takes effect, close and reopen Steam.
  • Reboot your computer to fully refresh system settings.
  • Start Coral Island again — it should now run using DirectX 11, which may improve stability and performance.

Is there any verification that the game is running in DX11?

Ah ok. I was just wondering how else to verify it is in dx11 in case restarting steam and my computer after setting the launch flag didn't work for some reaso; I will try the above steps.

Update: It still crashes but later

#

Once around 17:10 and the other at 17:50

#

I know software-hardware interactions can be weird but in general my setup has been quite stable for even fairly demanding games.

#

No crash logs generated either time it crashed.

#

Both were with brand new games also.

# wise ginkgo Update: It still crashes but later

Thanks for the update! Noted that it still crashes even after switching to DX11 😔
Do you recall how long you had been playing in real time before each crash? Also, how many in-game days had you completed, and what activity were you doing when the crash occurred? 😮

wise ginkgo
#

At this point, my testing involves starting a new game, enabling skip intro and disable tutorial, then parking outside my house. It crashes around 1700 on the first day.

Hello, I was able to make a recording but I would prefer it not be public; would it be ok if I sent it to you privately or is there a different way?

Hi hi @wise ginkgo, quick question from the team: have you updated all your drivers to the latest version (especially your GPU)? 😮
There’s a chance this could be related to lighting, since 5–6 PM is the day-to-night transition. We still need to dig deeper to confirm, but it’s a possible cause.

wise ginkgo
#

I had at the time but I would not mind to reverify.

Hiyaa @wise ginkgo, just a quick heads up! I’ve reached out to you via DMs so we can look into this a bit further. When you have some time, feel free to check it and let us know. Thanks, we’re looking forward to your reply! goatlove2

It has been a while but I may have another piece of the puzzle, though. I uninstalled my SteamVR after I noticed it was running any time I opened Coral Island. After uninstalling, the game seems much more stable. More testing needed but I am no longer crashing at the same point. This isn't really a long term solution for me as I quite enjoy using SteamVR. I am not aware of any VR features of Coral Island; it seems like something is flagging it as a VR game because usually SteamVR only runs for games that use VR. Please let me know if you need any more info.

terse edge
#

Hello! Thanks for sharing these details and getting back to us! 🙂

#

Ahh about the VR thing, we’ve received a few reports about Coral Island being detected as a VR game as well. Have you completely uninstalled SteamVR now? 😮

wise ginkgo
#

Yes I completely had to uninstall Steam VR, which isn't an ideal long term solution but for the short term seems to be working

I will try it when I can and let you know, thank you!

For clarity, I moved the file steamapps\common\Coral Island\Engine\Binaries\ThirdParty\OpenXR\win64\openxr_loader.dll . And it seems to work! I will let you know if it breaks again! Thank you for your help! I'm excited to finally be able to play!
