Same issue has been happening for days. I can join stream to steam just fine. But our Xbox friend gets this error joining us regardless if they host or not. We can’t join them and they can’t join us.

We are both connected to the same wifi

We tested here connecting the Xbox with the mobile as a router and it worked šŸ™

We had this same issue with another game called Tower Borne. We seems to be a problem related to IPv6. We couldn't fix it with the other game, we just gave up. However I don't want to give up Coral Island Co-op just because this problem.

@faint walrus can we do something to solve this?

When I was trying to fix this problem with my route, I see that some games try to connect server with ip v6 connection but the router doesn't allow it because it tries to connect using a tunnel from Microsoft called Teredo. But this Teredo tunnel is not supported by my router šŸ™

I guess this Teredo tunnel is being used by Coral Island on Xbox as Toner Borne.

Maybe I'll have to set my route in bridge mode and buy a personal router to connect wifi 😢

For the Xbox Cloud co-op with another player via Steam this workaround unfortunately didn't work out, but maybe for the othersšŸ¤ž

so one thing we did was go through her router settings, enable dmz, add forwarding ports for xbox and then we have to literally clear her mac address (xbox setting), make sure NAT is open and restart xbox every time we play for her to join us

Sister just bought and downloaded the game but it still says "Unstable Connection" everytime she tries to join and I cannot join a game she hosts either and it says the same thing. Anyone have any fixes

I am having this same issue - I am on Steam and my friend is on Xbox. We keep getting "Unstable Connection" and are able to play other multiplayer games together, so it cannot be an internet problem.

welp. the hotfix didn't fix anything for me. still getting the same error. I'm connecting via steam to the xbox downstairs. so same network. Only thing changed that there is now a xbox logo next to the game session...

Same problem with Steamdeck/XBOX Series X. No difference if Steam or XBOX is hosting the game. We have the problem since the multiplayer update released.

Same problem with LAN and Wi-Fi. This test has been run while other devices were using the Wi-Fi too. Most times it“s 100Mbps.
I also tryed to activate/deactivate crossplay. The only combination with a different outcome was hosting on XBOX with deactivatet crossplay and trying to join with the Steamdeck. Here I got the error "Host did not activate crossplay" (I don“t know the exact error code, I play in German)
Also no difference with new between existing files and new ones.
There are no problems while hosting a game on both devices, it“s just not possible to join.

We were having this issue earlier even though we were both on Steam/PC. None of us could connect to each other, no matter who was hosting. However, we figured out the issue was fixed after we both synced the system clock on Windows & disabled crossplay on the Settings menu. Will keep watching to see if the error happens again.

Yes. The option to sync automatically with the internet was already previously enabled, so we disabled the option and re-enabled it to "force resync"

Regarding the crossplay option:

  • If we both enable it, he is still able to join normally. I suppose the problem really was the desynced system clock (we both resynced it, so I'm not sure who was out of sync). I also had this issue in other games with multiplayer lobbies, so it's not surprising for me.
  • Interestingly, if I enable the option while the other party leaves it disabled, he gets an error upon trying to join (saying crossplay is disabled).

Ideally, it should be Open for smoother cross-platform connections.

  • When you play solo using your multiplayer save, do you get the message ā€œThe connection was lost. Your network may be unstable or disconnectedā€ after 3-5 min playing, right?
  • When you try joining your friend on Steam, does it show ā€œConnection too unstableā€?
  • And when your friend tries joining you, does it also show ā€œConnection too unstableā€?

This will help us pinpoint where the issue is happening.

Hey, sorry that it took me so long to answer.

I have no clue why but my NAT-Type was actually "moderate" (what is strange, because in the past i opened all importend ports manually cause of multiplayer issues) so i completely deleted the xbox from my router, set it up with a fix ip, the ability of automatic port release and upnp activated.

After that the NAT-Type was again "open".

Sadly it didn't do anything with the connection problem.

Later or tomorrow i will post a video of the connection-trys with enabled/disabled crossplay on both devices.

It happens every time
And it happens both ways if I try to join on ps5 to Xbox and if I try to join on Xbox to ps5
I usually try repeatedly about 10 tries then switch to trying another 10 from the other console
And I have no screen shot currently but after about 30 second the ā€œconnection too unstable , please try again later ā€œ message pops up

I tried switching from wifi to direct cable but still does it
I tried using a hotspot and still does it
I can get my friend on his ps5 to join my ps5
But me and my wife can’t join each other games on ps5 to Xbox and vice versa

Could the devs actually look into this? a lot of people are experienceing the same problem after the update , same error message and around the same time (later in the day) , it clearly has to do with the servers or the last update screwed something up. its not from our ends.

Hello, I am experiencing multiplayer connection issues as well. Mine is odd in that I was hosting the game on my desktop computer and while we would get occasional disconnects (where even I as host would get disconnected "from the server" and latency issues, we only lost a day's progress occasionally. But I bought a new gaming laptop and we cannot connect at all using that. Other games work just fine between my laptop and her desktop, but not coral island. We get a "connection too unstable" message.

Note I can log back into my desktop and she can connect, just not from the laptop. I have also had her host a game and I was unable to connect from the laptop.

PC info:
My Desktop that works: 7800X3D processor, 3080 graphics card, 32 GB RAM, 2 TB SSD.

My Laptop that does not: Legion Pro 7i, Core Ultra 275 processor and 5080 graphics. 32 GB RAM, 2 TB SSD.

My wife's computer is a 7800X3D processor with a 3060, 32 GB RAM and a 2TB drive.

Tried it wifi and wired. I'm going to try hotspotting from my phone next, but I don't expect that to help so I will only update the post if that does actually work.
Same game version on all of them: 1.2-1243

Just 2 people. Both using steam. Connection too unstable was happening every time when the 2nd player tried to connect (again, they could connect just fine when I hosted from my desktop PC running steam)

Of note on the PC I have been able to host from I have started getting connection errors where I am "disconnected from the host" even though I AM the host. Sometimes not even able to launch the server at all, sometimes partway through a day.

I am running into similar issues, regardless of which device we attempt to use as the host. We are using a Windows 10 PC and an XBox (2 players), both connected to the same network via WiFi. The "Connection Too Unstable" appears without fail around 15 - 30 seconds after the second person attempts to join; however, the host can always connect regardless of XBox or PC.

Thank you for checking, and yes — you are correct.

The Beta hotfix is currently available for Steam players only, since both players need to be on the same version to test the fix.
However, if the fix in the Beta branch works as expected, it will be included in a future update for consoles as well, including Xbox.

For now, we're still waiting for Steam players to help us confirm whether the hotfix resolves the ā€œConnection Too Unstableā€ issue before we push it to everyone.

Unfortunately I am not able to test with a second Steam account as the only machine I have capable of running steam is the PC (which is why I had gotten so hopeful of being able to play co-op once I got the Xbox) 😢

Hello! I am having a hard time with multiplayer. My husband and I are trying to connect, but keep getting the "connection is too unstable" error. We have tried both hosting, paused firewall, added it as an exception, restarted computers, and restarted the router. We just bought the game and wanted to play together (we each have a copy). Both of us are on steam. My husband also tried using his VPN in case it was something weird about us being in the same location.

I have only tried once (so grain of salt), but I was able to host from my Windows 10 PC (Steam) and join successfully from Xbox Series S (Xbox) ā¤ļø! I'll be testing this weekend with an actual play session, but that's looking hopeful šŸ¤ž

Will the guest/joining player have to create a character every time they join a hosted game (thus duplicating quests, etc), or are joined players saved with the hosted game and people have the opportunity to join as a previous player in subsequent sessions?

And regarding the question: In Coral Island’s multiplayer, guest characters are saved inside the host’s world. This means your partner won’t need to recreate a new character each time. Their character slot will stay in your save.

The host world supports up to 4 character slots, so whenever they rejoin your session, they can simply pick the same character and continue where they left off.

My husband and I have tried to do multiplayer twice now and both times we've gotten the "Your connection is too unstable. Please try again later" error. We both have the game on steam and our internet was working just fine. We are on version 1.2b-1245. Is there anything we can do on our end to fix this error?

We are in the United States and are playing in the same house (same room even). Here is a small sampling of our internet. It does tend to vary, so I tried to give you a typical range from both mine and my husband's computers. We got the error again this evening after I did the test that showed 154 Mbps.

Sorry for the slow reply, it has been really busy. We tried again with two different wi-fi connections and it worked both places. Unfortunately the place with the better connection (around 500 Mbps download 250 Mbps upload) did not work tonight (hence why I have time to respond). Same location, same internet, same day, just different time and we got the connection unstable error. We checked our internet, restarted our computers and tried moving to a different spot in the house, but no luck. Now that we've played it a bit, we love it! Multiplayer is amazing! We will try again tomorrow, but do you have any other ideas on what we can try if we encounter this problem again?

We figured out if my husband's time wasn't synced (it gets out of sync when he switches between his windows and linux partitions) we get the unstable connection error. To fix it he closes his game syncs his time and when he reenters the game it works fine. I thought I'd share this in case it helps anyone else.

I'm trying to play online with my friend but we keep getting message that our connection is unstable and we can't enter but I'm sure our connection is fine. I read somewhere you need to have the right timezone to fix this bug but I can't test it with my friend because she's offline at the moment. Anyone kind enough to help me test if the issue is fixed by joining my online game. I'll be greatful
