I am not sure if someone has already asked this but I'm planting a tree and it grows in the fall or spring, and I'm planting it in the fall. Will it die after the fall like the other plants or will it just stop producing fruits?

Yeah sounds like it was a fruit plant and not a fruit tree. It can be confusing since some of the "fruit" plants also grow on trees IRL. you can tell by the icon they have in game: Brown (Saplings) last forever, White (Seedlings) will only last the two seasons they are designated for.
