This quest doesn't seem to work? I bring a salmon with me to the beach shack at the right time and it does nothing, I give him a salmon and he just has the gift reaction, not sure how this is supposed to work. Is it just not implemented yet?

I was unable to do the Salmon quest for a while until tonight. What seemed to work was actually holding the Salmon as I entered the beach shack.

I actually figured it out, I had missed his previous event because I never enter his house
once I'd triggered that one, going back the next day it worked

Not sure, they are interchangeable in recipe so it should probably work. Are you sure you got all the other Jim events before this one?

I was actually able to complete the quest today. I believe I went to the Beach Shack a little after 5 and then a cut scene happened and the quest was completed

Although they are interchangeable for cooking, I'd use regular salmon for the 5 heart event. Holding the salmon as you walk in the beach shack. Going just after 5pm seems to be key. I hope it works for you. I had that quest for ages and was finally able to complete it with the update.

You don’t have to hold it for it to trigger. You need to have finished all the Jim events that are prior to this one

Aha okay yeah so the salmon just need to be in your character inventory and it'll trigger the cutscene in Beach Shack, Buggie.
If you're already watch the previous heart event, maybe try going to Beach Shack couple more time and see if it works
