This was not our intention at all. Our intention was that it would be cool to have a DLC where all the NPC have facial hair, something that you as a player can do. In fact, this is a mod we hope the community adds to the game. We did not intend to make fun of anyone's appearances. In Coral Island, it is a built-in feature of our character customizer for Players of any gender/body type to add facial hair if they so desire.

With the above context added, may we again get your thoughts? If nothing has changed, ie, it is still offensive, and or it causes anyone to feel bad about themselves, we will immediately delete the post, because making sure everyone feels welcomed or accepted is our goal.

it's nice that most discourses about it on discord have been respectful but come-on, i honestly feel bad for the mods that have to reply to it over and over and over again.
this discussion has been going on and has been revived so many times it's honestly disheartening. why focus only on the "woman with beards as april fools joke" when they already talked about it being food for thought for mods and also they put women and men together as being unable and able to grow facial hair pretty equally in that post.
we already have one trans nb character ingame(they are even happily married, holy sh*t, talk about acceptance and representation; and if you dont think nb qualifies as trans: honey why gatekeeping, use that think-energy for something else pls), you can make your character nb, facial hair isnt locked to gender (i hope the same applies to hair styles i honestly cant remember), there are 4 more characters to be revealed and we barely know any of the merfolk. heck maybe some of our dateables can be trans but only come out about it to us later? but that's less probable i'd say.

My roommate is a trans* nonbinary human, preferring she or they. She was originally hoped exclusively by her, but she grows facial hair quite frequently, despite laser surgery, and costly efforts to stop it from happening. Which sucks in a binary world, but that's her body. And she loves herself.

I am indeed hopeful that facial hair is supported. Women can indeed grow facial hair, so why bother genderlocking it?

In the trans* drag community, there's representation of women with beards. Google "Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence" -- they've fundraised more money across worthy causes for over 50 years, way more than any of us have contributed. They're deemed freaks by mainstream culture, even shunned by their own communities. But they go in with a heart of gold and save lives.

Consider Billy Porter, actor/singer/directors/broadway/television. Wears a gorgeous gown to mainstream television like Sesame Street and major award events like Oscars/Met Gala/Critics' Choice, and Billy doesn't shave the beard. Because, "if I want to wear a dress, I'm wearing a dress!" All conventional stereotypes broken for a greater good.

In good faith, the management simply saying, "we didn't mean for it to come out as it did, we are going to allow all genders to have facial hair, and allow everyone to let their most beautiful version of themselves shine through."

With that, I know the management is probably insanely busy, and I haven't seen them post in this room much, but I hope it gets passed along to please consider it.

Still, being as it was April Fools' Day, I can see how many think it was a joke at a groups' expense.

From what I can gauge, it seems that the problem is more in the idea of joking about a woman having facial hair; thus, opening a conversation for an NPC trans-woman and/or cis-woman that has facial hair to give representation to those individuals. That, and also having a rapid response when it comes to people holding them accountable, not just here but on social media as well. We can't expect everyone that's anticipating this game to be a part of the Discord server so while a conversation may have occurred here many times, there are people who haven't witnessed that. I can't account for the conversation on social media since I don't use it often but from what I've gathered, it didn't seem like there was much of one. It's good that Maya's message was pinned though for that reference.

I've read an article on a non-binary person with autism and their experience with both. Was kinda fun.

They were just like "I'm already not exactly standard, might as well."

I think it's that neurodivergent folk already don't really mesh well with the norms that were designed for neurotypical folk in the first place and therefore don't hold onto concepts like a binary gender and gender-based sexuality as strongly as neurotypical folk.

...Would need more research to be sure, though.
