Lemme tell yall that this game is made by indonesian dev and here lgbt is basically labeled as "unnatural" and "taboo" because the country is heavily relying on religions as the way of living. Having been in the chat when the transphobia showed up...yeah, it was not a pleasant time. They've also now thrown the disability community there under the bus with the latest hotfix. Basically saying they made changes to the game because of accessibility feedback...except that the changes they made were never requested by the community. idk, I'm pretty damn salty about Palia rn for a variety of reasons. It's cool that people still like it and it fits their needs/wants in a game. I just couldn't take it anymore. The community and S6's team have been nothing but toxic positive/outright toxic imo. It just wasn't the vibe anymore

So this game has all romanceable players be playersexual, as does Stardew Valley. How do you feel about that compared to games like Mass Effect 3 or Dragon Age Inquisition where characters are given specific sexualities, gay, lesbian, bi, or straight, etc, and it's part of their character?
Dorian from Inquisition, for instance, has a personal history that makes it narratively neccesary for him to be gay (spoilers for Dorian's story in Inquisition, cn homophobia ||in a society that didn't accept him, as someone in the noble class, to be unwilling to marry a woman and create miniature nobles.||

Personally, I think playersexual is the right call for this game, but it'd be interesting to see characters written with specific orientations in mind.

Oh, and by playersexual, I mean their orientation is to be attracted to whatever gender the PC is, not sure how common that term is to describe it, it's just what we use in my household.

Not just because Dorian's story reads as the typical lazy story, which is a very real one but one that always comes off as shallow when used in games, but because players all have their own preferences, and they will want to have an option that reflects that. Zevran, for example, is not a character I would want to romance in DA:O, nor are Dorian and Iron Bull in DA:I.

Yup! I think I agree with y'all. While you can sometimes get a nice, bespoke, queer story out of a dedicatedly queer LI, a game about romance that's playersexual gives everyone the same optiones, regardless of player orientation (not that in game romance has to match player orientation). It has so many advantages, that I think I like it more. I may have liked some of the stories in bioware games (and not liked some of the others), at least up to a point, but I didn't like not having all the options a straight pc or player would have.

Raj has always used they/them, the mistake early on was using “he” for their room description. They are confirmed NB by the devs, but it would be nice if it was more explicit in their bio. A lot of people seem to overlook their pronouns too.

Unless there’s a flashing sign above their head, there is no way to make them read as more NB. Like honestly it’s that way of thinking why so many NB I have talked to think they’re not non-binary enough or don’t “look” non-binary. There’s just no such thing. Being GNC or androgynous isn’t the same as being NB, and plenty of people who fall into those categories aren’t NB either. The bio for them could be more explicit, but that’s about it. People missing that Dippa and Raj are non-binary doesn’t mean changes need to be made anyway.

NB is just a huge umbrella term that includes too many different identities to try to narrow it down to a “look” or whatever. You have gender fluid, agender, bi-gender , demiboy/girl, etc etc and all fall into the category. We don’t have specifics for how either identify either.

I think the situation I'm concerned about is when people write a character to have a certain identity, but they don't work with anyone from that community, sometimes the character doesn't feel authentic to members of that community. before that you were required to do all kinds of weird assessments to get an official document stating that you qualify to change stuff

so not a lot of people did it since the process was tedious and there was still a chance that they'd reject it and you'll pay part of the fees anyway

I use e/em & ey/em which is a neopronoun set from the 80s iirc. but it's easy enough to explain with "it's like they/them but without the th-" and its a semi-common accent/slang thing to drop the th to begin with.
