tbh i think it's the fact that i approach teh tank like i would an illustration, whereas with interior design my limitations are more significant and financially burdensome since i can't literally build everything from scratch

what do you mean? 😮 if you're referencing artfight, you just submit the finished piece to the website

and it has a relaly robust points system based on completion level and the complexity of the piece - it's all self-determined

so like, a huge crowd scene is worth more than one person, but it all contributes to yoru team's point pool

the real fun of it is drawing other peoples' characters though imo, that's why i do it year after year - and it helps me see how mcuh i've improved each yeaer!

it's really really active, actually!! like, thousands upon thousands of users every year, and it only grows more every year

to say nothing of the need to have a completely walled off space for your setup which remains 100% undisturbed that long & away from any external influences

I'm a generalist though, I do everything even slower than most

The more you develop your hand, the more your eye develops in pace, which means you can see more readily both what you couldn't before as well as higher horizons to aspire to.

as long as you keep enjoying the journey & don't make it a thing where you keep setting yourself up for when you get to that destination, you're doing fine

i just watched a video on people trying to get artists/web designers/whomever to do their work (hundreds of hours mind you) for FREE.

Absolutely disgusts me to no end. It is not RIGHT to ask these people who make a damn LIVING off of this to do it for free because 'you took a while to respond' (the artist was out on vacation with their fiance) or 'i can send people your way' (their business was actually doing good because they were approached out of the blue) yadda yadda yadda
It absolutely INFURIATES me that actual human beings who have made a living off of doing what they love have to deal with absolutely GARBAGE people who just want them to do it for free because 'it's nice of you to do'. It's not FAIR to these people and it really just wastes their time that they could be using to do something actually productive.

This is really something I feel so strongly about because I recognize that these are real people who have real lives outside of what I commission them for, and it just really makes me mad that others fail to recognize this and start being rude to these people who dont DESERVE that kind of treatment from anyone.

I never set a time limit, I never try and negotiate price
Because they deserve to take as much time as they need to do their work to the absolute best of their abilities and they deserve every single cent that I give them.
I'm sorry for the long rant it's just
I feel extremely strongly about this.

also if people actually want critique on anything, I don't think that's the general vibe here, but I'm happy to attempt positive critiques too, nano doing portraits from reference for one leads me to think it might be wanted in some places (which is not meant as veiled criticism, hope it doesn't read that way: you're doing what appears to be great stuff, but hard to say without reference how good of a likeness you may be getting in that kind of work if you know what I mean)

I taught myself to animate emotes... But learned that Clip Studio Paint doesn't save transparency with animated gif formats....

Krita's still far from a perfect substitute, but it's worlds better than people suggesting gimp like it's a viable alternative

Although gimp still has one niche for me: when an app needs a ico file, seems like everything else discontinued support (figures gimp would care the most about the only art developers 'need')

I always recommend firealpaca as a free program for people to work in because it's how I started. CSP is a really good work horse, especially for the price. Just sucks that I can't get a transparent gif straight from the program

Yeah, gifs are tricky to fully support as a commercial / proprietary format. A but surprising for one as big as CSP to not have it, but not that unusual

I don't know, I got into programming because I'm kind of dissatisfied with every 2D suite as a pixel artist who likes flexibility & direct control over my data modes & wants animation tools, who also illustrates & is accustomed to a certain tool set being available, & also knows vector, 2 & 3D, & can see room for feature cross polination the likes of which 2D hasn't benefited from for decades...haven't found one that strikes me as a perfect replacement

I do not know if this is a good place to ask, but I am possibly seeking someone to draw a tattoo design for me and slightly edit another. Requirements are; Must be detailed, clean crisp lines, not cartoony (i despise "flash" designs), realistic, and good/experienced in drawing weapons. Work good in primarily black and white with minimal color. MUST have fantastic open communication, be able to listen to instruction and abide by details given, and not willy nilly "artist interpretation/do what you want because you can". Also must provide plenty of verifyable references (da/fa/th..whatever..but proof it's your work). Must also be willing to accept direction and make changes and provide WIPs without retaliation or complaint. No blind work. I will not pay extra for edits unless we have both consentually agreed that the piece is "finished" and I ask for edits after. Color references are fine, but as I am asking for minimal color, b&w or monotone references are highly preffered. I expect, at most, 3 months to do the work after starting (negotiable at my behest as long as there is clear, open communication) So I do ask that the artist not intentionally milk that deadline. If you have a busy plate/life or such or have a long list queue of people waiting, please do not apply or tell me such when the time comes that I would like it started. Payment amount will be discussed, but I will only pay via paypal and only in USD and I will not "send as a friend".

As I currently do not have a computer and am based off my phone, I have no set date of start. Working off my phone is a pain in the ascot. Currently just browsing for potential artists for future commission. Sorry for the long post. Also, examples do not have to be digital, nor does the work. If you have a massive sketchbook at home, take some good quality pics. Digital work is preferred, but if you can do all required work with physical medium, as long as the finished product is provided in some form of good clear quality, I am willing to accept. You need special liquid to clean oil off brushes. Its also more expensive.

Yeah, and you have to be really careful because what you use to wipe your brushes on can combust and the paint thinner, if you don't use water mixable oils, has to be taken out special and can't just be drained like paint water can be

Ikr- the good stuff isn’t like extremely cheap but it’s still way better than oil- though oil looks way easier to work with for layering and stuff

either acrylics or oils can work fine for layering, gradients & detailing, it's just a matter of knowing how to work with them.

everyone gets down on oils for being toxic, but the solutions you have to mix acrylics with to get comparable results are more toxic

I learned the hard way that acrylics don’t layer like oil when I tried doing a bob Ross tutorial

plus for oils you don't have to use turpentine, you can use turpenoid, or even natural orange alternatives....there's even water soluble oils, but those are.....a pain

oh no, you can, you just have to mix it with retardant

just between all the retardant, matte medium, frisket, spray fixative, etc, you're going to breathe a lot of plastics & oil ends up being less hazardous

or you know...digital

I will recommend, as far as acrylics go, I never found better than lascaux

others I had preferences, but with less specific loyalty. most other acrylics I just really hated...

& to get things to layer, you generally just have to put down layers of matte medium to seal what's underneath

oils you just let them dry & you're good, but most people paint way too thick while they're learning & end up laying down so much it never will

even then it takes a long time: there's a reason professional oil painters have always kept 1-2 dozen paintings in rotation. you still have to wait weeks for a proper, thin layer to dry in oils

yeah, total opposite with acrylics, you're just mixing anything & everything into them all the time to get them to cooperate the way you're expecting. retardant gets the stuff to just to the short end of a good range of time before it dries out, & then because it's water soluble you have to seal layers with something that isn't

& then another layer of matte / satin / gloss medium again on top to finish it

or you can use fixativ to seal layers a bit more thinly, but spray stuff will be more of a breathing hazard, so you need good ventilation all the more
