accumulation depth of field works by subtly moving the camera around a fixed point, being the focal point, and blending images it takes at each movement together to create the bokeh
so what youd do is select the focal point and that will be the point the camera does not move on, but rather around, and as it moves it will take an image on each point, called a sample, itll repeat this usually in a circular motion going outwards
the reason this method is so much more accurate than typical implementations that use a mixture of gaussian blur and highlight boosting is because it has no reliance on a depth buffer, which basically tells the game how far things are from the camera
depth buffer methods usually struggle to account for fine detail, alpha textures (ones with transparency like a png), and particle effects, which leads to strange artifacts like in this nier shot ill send after this
by simply rotating around a point the camera doesnt need to know about anything depth or texture related since its just moving the entire scene around

I just did a very very subtle edit.

Slight soft highlight roll off, along with grain which reacts to the lighting, you'll noticed highlights have less grain, shadows have more, mid tones have a balanced grain.

Oh and a tiny bit of blur across the whole image to make it softer

It's easy tbf.

Grain layer, you then click the og photo and use selective colour. Set the fuzziness to around 150% and invert it, then mask it. This is basically your shadows and mid layer. (It excludes grain on the highlights)

Do another grain layer above with no mask and set the opacity down so it's also on the highlights just subtle.
