Once had someone say to my face. “Oh so having a voice changer is considered voice acting now?” Having to then explain that yes, if I’m voicing a robot, a ghost, or any character that requires effects to fully get across what/who the character is then yes it does. But even then you still need a performance underneath. Not trying to sound peeved I get that unless you are in that field you don’t get it, but I have to admit it gets me when someone tries to tell me about my job.

Jack Black as Bowser for example, would have needed some excellent voice acting, but then it's processed to sound complete.

Exactly. Hell shows like doctor who do the voices of the daleks and cybermen live on set with a ring Modulator. And some studios do the effect live so the actors can have a better idea of how it will sounds and it allows them as a performer to play with they’re voice.

I don’t have Windows so I don’t know what’s available in Voicelab but if you can find a bitrate module and set it to 8-16 bits that should do the trick. There’s also the Cheap Mic voice.

That would either be a case of working on impressionism or AI voice technology. Voicemod is only just dipping into the AI voice game.

My advice would be to work on getting the inflections of whom ever you wish to mimic. Such as say Morgan freeman. If you can get that down then maybe using voicemods powerpitch in voicelab or trying some of they're male AI voices to find something thats close enough. If that seems like too much work then all I can suggest is to look into AI voice software. Like the ones they use to create those presidents play games videos everyone loves.

No there are software just like voice mod where it takes the data of you speaking and puts it out in the AI voice you've selected. There are videos on youtube going over all of it if you are curious.

which voice? If you mean Zenyatta and the generic omnic, the resonator is the entire bases, that is what creates the tinny robotic/Omnic effect. If you remove it then you just have double pitch and reverb. If there is a alternative that you believe would create that tinny like effect then please let me know.

Ah honestly it was just a experiment and was just to try and show that people are trying to work on ram. The issue is I sound nothing like Ramon Tikaram, and as I've said before unlike Zen where it is essentially just the effect slapped over his voice. With Ram I can tell they're got two tracks going. one with the effect and one without, the stronger being the uneffected track.

And over it seems to be a slight bit or reverb very slight though.

Listening I can barely hear it. But as always you can adjust the effect to your liking. Just fiddle with the high and low pass filter till you get the effect to your liking.

Funny enough it is just making a custom voice and not adding any effects. automatically cancels out background noise and makes your voice nice and clear without blowing out your voice with too much base or treble like the clean mic does.

It does it automatically. If you create a voice lab voice with no effects you will notice that there is automatic noise reduction.

And if it’s not enough you can adjust the noise reduction in the mic settings on the bottom right hand corner.

The noise reduction is always on unless you turn off voice effects and have it be just your raw mic. Then naturally you’re gonna hear background noise because voice mod isn’t applying anything to your voice.

I've been trying for a while to create a voicemod that sounds like the effect they put over Maelstrom ganger voices in Cyberpunk 2077 and I can't get the distortion right. I think maybe they used a bitcrush rather than a regular overdrive or tube distortion or whatever voicemod has? It just sounds way more crunchy and less hiss than anything I can do with voicemod's distortion. If anyone has any ideas let me know.

yes via voice acting which takes practice and time. I'm not at the means to become a vocal coach or teach you all the ins and outs about how to properly work with your voice. The most you can do to start with is listen to the kind of voice you want, try and listen to how they pronounce certain words and syllables and once you think you've got that down if you can't reach the pitch they do then you can use some pitch correction to heighten your voice. In the end voice acting/impressionism isn't as easy as people make it out and doing it wrong can lead to you hurting your voice. There are videos on youtube that go into it and you should be able to learn from there.

While yes everyone has a voice range. Such as myself, I'm a guy in my 20s who has a rather deep voice. I can't do high pitched voices. But other men have the range either naturally or from training to reach higher pitches. It's essentially like singing and you need to try it out to see if you have it naturally or need to train or in the end may need digital adjustment to reach the right point.

The bit I've highlighted red is what I'm talking about. If needed you can adjust the slider there to change how aggressive the noise reduction is.

I have it very low because even at zero voice mod does an amazing job at cancelling out just regular dead noise and it also helps to have a really good mic.

Oh are you using a link cable?

Because unless you are playing the pc version there isn’t a way to change your voice on the oculus version. But with a link cable you can play the pc version and should be able to either use a different mic or I believe there should be a option for the mic on your headset and it should be labels as oculus.

I'd like to call it "Stutter" which as the name implies, makes you stutter at random. Maybe add sliders to how frequent the stuttering will be and how much of the previously spoken sentence will be looped to use for the stuttering effect.

I had this idea in mind for a while from hearing robots/animatronics glitching out mid-sentence which I thought was really cool. But when people try to recreate it in VRChat for example, it.. doesn't really work..
