I haven't fully figured it out but to my knowledge you can get your skins as their own variants it looks like, if it's say a legendary it'll replace the default model that'll be used for the legendary variants you can buy

Only the ones you buy from the market tho, any guns you pick up mid match will retain their initial appearance though I haven't killed any real players who had skins on their guns so I'm not sure if those retain the skin they had before obtaining them

Would make sense tho, it was a thing in the original DMZ which was funny
