i just entered winter but the problem is i got breached by zombies.

Here is my stats:

i just unlocked farmland. i only have 1 farm.
my population is 29 people. around 15 are knife fighters and 14 work day shifts.
my wall is tier 3 that unlocks the crossbowman but i didnt build the turrets.

problems:

i have been starting to struggle with food somewhere like day 10-15 before i have farming which forces me to recruit 4-5 hunters.
sometimes the walls almost gets breached and the repairman is slow even with the level two upgrade. forcing me to recruit more guards and hire 2-3 repairmen.
i have to make people change shifts everytime like scavenger to miner or repairman to lumberjack. this slows down one's efficiency and delay my upgrades.

discussion:
I need some solutions to help prevent my problems from happening again.

note:
I am not new to the game, i've played since around 2021-2022 and recently i decided to get back to this game and the new mechanics are not really making me readjust. although i do like some features added like when the bloodmoon is going to happen and when winter is going to approach which helps me prepare.

Focus your stars on better knives until u max it out

Early game u probably only need like 5 knife fighters and maybe 5 repairmen

#

Don’t upgrade your wall into stone if u can’t mine them fast enough

early game as in like day 10-15? also i would need to build tents and upgrade to level 2 and the food problem i have will be dire and i also dont want to overhunt animals.

At that point, your fastest way to gain citizens is giving birth. You should also watch out for the amount of food you’ll need, especially if a winter comes by. You don’t want half of your population to die off

im new here and not that good but i can get to like 55 days with 2 houses and just focusing base and workshop upgrades till you can get a farm up then around 1300 to 2000 storage should live you through the whole winter pretty alright but then after that im lost cause theres either not enough people alive after winter or i lost too many tools from the people dying so now i gotta focus on getting them back and building up and then the blood moon comes and instantly kills me :p

should only need 1 land unlock in my experience whenever i go for 2 before winter i dont have enough wood to survive

The only way to get by winter is with more farms. More farms, more granaries should fix the problem

i usually run 5 farms at level 2 and the rest of the whole land is just used for storage

#

it works and no one starve but its after winter i always seem to die on the blood moon right after it

#

i usually have 5 knife fighters on each wall and crossbows on every single one and enough wood to build a new town

#

im on the easiest mode btw qwp

i know ill need more farms later on but for now that works so i dont wanna waste any of my space on more but i dont know how to survive that blood moon ive tried everything from putting every single person (sometimes over 30 people) on knives to using every skill point on just knives and it just doesnt work

A rough gauge of how much farmers u should have by me who was gotten over 700 rounds: 1 farmer can feed 4 people, the decrease in winter is slow enough so that u can buy a bunch of wheat from the trader

ive had 8 farmers every run since i found out how to get them before winter and it keeps working out no one starves

In my run, the most annoying thing was winter

#

Forced a lot of space to be wasted

yeah i kept dying in winter and couldnt get past it but then i got down the time needed and things needed to get farms before winter and now i get through easily its more surviving that one blood moon thats the issue now

for some reason its always my most upgraded and guarded wall that dies

If u manage to reach endgame, the zombies will just overwhelm u as ur people just can’t deal enough damage anymore

yeah i figured that would happen eventually but like for example with you over day 700 i should be more then capable of getting past day 55 yet i just cant

One tip is to not upgrade to stone wall until u start struggling and have more than 10 miners as u won’t be able to make enough stone to maintain them

fair i just looked up tips and tricks earlier today and i saw "also DO NOT upgrade to stone walls before you have stone production" in which my mind went to "is this actually an issue i thought that would be obvious"
