Whenever the "Saving Failed" / server issues are ongoing, you want to make regular outfit changes to force the game to save.
(The same error message will display if indeed there are connectivity issues).

If people run out of time and they need to turn their system off, if you can record or make some sort of log about what you did or gained, hopefully Rockstar Support will replenish / reimburse / reinstate whatever you lost.
