Yes, because GTA Online uses peer-to-peer to connect players to a lobby through a session host. If players don't have a constant, stable connection to the session host, or the session hosts' internet can't handle a constant connection to all the players in the lobby, players will get desynced from the lobby.

The logic is there, and GTA Online requires a solid, stable internet connection. There are a lot of people using shit 5G home internet or wireless connections that don't provide as much stability as a wired connection.

I have 5 other people in my group right now, and none of us have been kicked in the past 2 hours. Definitely doesn't sound like an issue on Rockstar's end. Maybe you should consider the possibility that it's an internet-related issue. Rockstar doesn't use servers to connect players to lobbies anyways, and I explained why it's likely to be an internet issue.
