Items transforming when held

Playing on Xbox one. I'm on the first mission from the hangar (salvage run). Whenever I pick up an item, doesn't matter what the item is, it turns into what I'm guessing is a deplorable turret, but only while I'm holding it. Whether I hit Y to drop, or deploy using RT, the item transforms back into what it is supposed to be. This has happened with all kinds of different items, making it impossible to continue

wdym a deployable turret? can you send an image of what the item looks like to you?

It's turning into a salvage bag. You are holding the max amount of items, anything above that gets put into a bag, which can contain as many items as you want to make collecting loot and bringing it back to the ship easier
