Don't know why he does this but ammo was still a cache full and our engines were down yet he used the materia for ammo instead. then when we recycled enough for another shield cell he made more ammo?

Doesn't he only craft ammo in duo? I thought he wasn't supposed to repair the ship in duo, only solo, though maybe i'm wrong.
Also he doesn't repair shields, and i don't think he fixes components even in solo but i may be wrong?

Just got clarify things, the only kind of repairs Buddy does is making and using Repair Kits when needed. In solo, ship components never get damaged.
If you are on the last ship ammo pack, Buddy (in solo or duo) will make another ammo pack. He will blindly do that regardless of your priorities, since, well
... shooting down enemy ships is kind of important.
When that low on Materia, you will always clash with Buddy on the smallest things. He is trying to make sure you can kill the threat that's damaging your ship, even while you are trying to repair said ship.

And i guess they assumed buddy repairs ship components
