#Mission with the batteries shouldn't have insta kill pits

Why not?
Because if you fall in with the battery you cant get them out
Which means your softlocked
Don't they usually spawn more batteries than needed tho?
What happens if you end up losing it twice or someone is griefing?
Yes but they don't respawn so while not common it very possible to softlock
So a fix is either to remove the pits, or to add a mechanism that would "locate" more batteries if something happened to the original batch.
I think this is more of a general comment as to ensuring that no mission-critical items can be lost due to player disconnects or accidental/purposeful player behavior.
Well... be careful
I can see the problem of somebody is being abnoxious, so that might be a problem, but if you're not careful, and you lose the batteries... it seems that should be your problem. But that's just me....
Yeah, I sort of agree. Seeing as there are spares, you should have enough time to notice that someone is being actively malicious, which I don't see happening that often in the first place. And if you actually lose multiple batteries due to your own mistake, then perhaps your party deserves to fail the mission XD
The devs can't be hand-holding the players all the time... although of course it tends to be a good game design to ensure stuff like this can't happen - for example in DRG player's loot drops upon their disconnect to ensure that no mission-critical items become inaccessible.
So honestly I can see good arguments for both sides.
You one get like one or two spares, right? And you can’t really babysit someone either. I think the solution is either get rid of the pit or make it so you can always go back to the POI and grab another one (one at a time ofc)
They could change the battery containers to be battery printers (as in 3D printer). The device could have 0-6 batteries already printed but you can press a button to print another battery with a long-ish cooldown.
Maybe that, and it takes a LARGE amount of materia?
Nah difficulty should just be controlled through cooldown. Longer cooldown means you have to survive for longer while you wait. That'll still allow for recovery if things go completely wrong.
Sure, but it could still cost materia, and then the harder the difficulty, the longer the wait time
Why?
Because it seems like it should have some cost besides just wait time, especially as they give you two or so spares
Why? Wait time is a cost.
It's a major cost actually.
At harder difficulties you don't have enough sustain to survive indefinitely.
Wait time is basically the same as costing materia.
Because eventually everyone will run out of ammo and revives will cost materia.
Then revives start costing core health.
What if it made you wait, and spawned a higher power enemy?
Yeah
It just seems like it should be something you REALLY want to avoid
Yea but if it already spawns batteries you'd just take those anyway
Most of the time it just won't be needed tbh
It's just there to prevent softlocks
I guess it can be abused. Like if someone finds a safe battery dispenser they'll keep using that even though it takes longer.
vs being forced to pick up a battery from a more dangerous location
Yeah, that's what I was thinking. It seems like it should have some VERY detrimental effect, that you REALLY do NOT want to happen, like if you aren't careful and you lose it, you might just not make it out of here alive.
I just dont like the fact that you also lose all the guns you are carrying (which usually took some time to get and on the harder difficulties it can make the remaining mission extra hard) and also the fact that there are no other instant death pits anywhere else in the game so they are easy to stumble into and suprise you
I thought they did have death pits elsewhere? But yeah, not super common. And it would be nice if you could grapple your weapons out of the pit.
