#Roles

While a 4 man team needs to work together and change up focuses depending on the situation if we want to be efficient, I think it could be useful if we could self-claim specific roles to indicate what we are going to prioritize.

The pilot will of course rarely going to leave their pilot seat and will focus on driving the ship to safety and battle and as captain maybe could decide on how artifacts should be utilized. He can also hop on the radar at the beginning of a map and do some scanning.

The gunner also has a dedicated seat and in dogfights he will probably stay there exclusively.

The quartermaster ? Should focus on loot organization, crafting/refilling ammo/hull HP/shield.

The guardian angel should jump on any hazards like fire, radiation, system malfunctions.

The names are just placeholders and for sure there will be plenty of overlaps in an actual match, but it can help giving an idea in public groups what ppl want to do/planning to do.

this is a can of worms my friend. the community seems pretty dead set on keeping roles losely defined. dont get me wrong im with you there needs to be perks and skills and abilities for player progression. its more a debate on how to implement it. i gesture broadly at Deep Rock Galactic.

In DRG the roles are very clearly defined imo due to the classes. The scout for example will avoid fighting unless it's a prio target, since his weapons are not too ammo efficient compared to others, and his super high mobility saves a lot of time for the group if he will just focus on mining instead.

While I wouldn't be against something like that here too, I don't think that's the Dev's vision.

I'm not asking for benefits, stats or class armor. It's more about the idea to avoid multiple ppl trying to do the same thing and thus waste time and mats. For example in a fight when we lose our ship shields and let's say we will stay in combat for a long time, it's natural that a player will go craft and replenish the shields. Now if we have multiple ppl with the same idea we might waste materia and craft multiple shields.

I have been pugging since I started playing and I see a huge value in claiming such roles at the beginning.. or even later on if we start out with 3 and later a 4th join.

Sure it's possible to just vibe it out, but we either have to discuss who is focusing on what or claim a role to speed it up and avoid language barriers.
