In the dev Q&A, the idea of non-combat ship mechanics came up. Would it be possible to have some kind of item retrieval or claw machine type of activity for players to help with salvage while staying aboard the ship?

i have made similar suggestion to this in the general discussion and would absolutely love a way to grab things without having to completely leave the ship. a claw arm that someone can control or is an automatic proximity to the ship kind of thing or both. while not manned itll do it automatically but it wont do it fast and you have to position the ship for it to work effectively. while manned positioning would matter less and would be significantly faster.

There's a lot of open space on the bottom of the Catamaran. Perhaps an item magnet that pulls things there so you can retrieve items from caches during combat or asteroid storms without stopping the ship.

Yeah a smash and grab sprinter build for moving cargo and supplies on cargo and supply line missions. Where I imagine they are more or less a series of checkpoint or slalom style systems stop grab what you can as fast as you can. I want pay day 2 lvls of planning for missions and loading out and kitting your character the skill and car suit system are fun to tinker with and adjust to fit different mission types.

Its not the fastest or most agile but its got alot of space for gear and has an advanced crafter by default which let's you craft larger ablative armor shard packs, a shield unit that fully charges and apples a 100% DR over shield to the last use of the shield box. For .5-1.5 second duration on the over shield. Using the last use in the box to block a rail shot or barage of missiles could charge the boost.

Some kind of freighter with a deluxe bay would be cool. They could outfit it with all sorts of salvage gizmos

Maybe there could be a crew station on the ship to pilot ‘one of these’ (pictured) to be used kind of like a wagon/cargo-hauler, and/or to steer a non-combat Buddy around? (Either able to perform the “Materia-gun-opens-door” with on-foot crew or-else being in that seat reduces the gun-opening requirement by one)

Trade-off for one less gun in foot-combat is dramatically increased cargo-carrying (but an operator needs to manoeuvre it along / for optimum performance)
