Are you thinking this is an endless mode variant?
More like just an alternate way to play the main mode of the game. But it could work in endless mode too.
I guess the main monde is so integrated to the meta progression that having it work as a roguelike mode might not work
Yeah I'm like.. how would that work with multiple people switching a roguelike toggle for the whole game
Putting it in a segregated mission would work
I'm thinking this but it takes 1.5-2 hours to complete and each stage is very quick, no needless waiting so that the gameplay is packed with action and you can upgrade a lot and frequently. And maybe make a final stage a boss fight
Yeah it would probably work better as a separate mode. I was thinking you start in the base as usual and pick your mission from the map but you start from scratch with ship/gear upgrades every time
mmmm big ship boss fight... don't get me started.. I have so many ideas personally..
hahaha
i bet it would be pretty difficult to implement so no need to rush that idea
It would be so killer... I love MMO raid mechanics
oh hell yea
As long as you can still do it solo sure bring in a boss 😄
We could design things around 4 players (and a nerfed solo version)
to make a cohesive intended difficlty, without many modifiers that can interfere
Like you HAVE to do with with either 4 players or solo, no inbetween
Yeah that would work
And it's hard as shit. Perfect coordination or this battle cruiser will rock your shit
Challenge is good yeah
How is the proposed endles mode going to work exactly? Do you get any downtime at the base between missions or do you just jump from mission to mission directly?
Big boss fights with mechanics are something that would be just awesome period
so I'm thinking like 10 main stages and every 2 stages you have a break stage where you can manage your ship and upgrades (maybe add a shop in those break stages where you can buy upgrades and other stuff with idk leftover materia? or maybe another resource. MAYBE ADD A META CURRENCY THAT STAY AFTER A RUN??????? HOLY SHIT DUDE)
So in total would be 15 stages and the 16th stage would be the bossfight, but each stage takes less than 10min to complete
I really liked the fire/ice bosses in void crew
The two variants we are thinking right now is
- Just giving you the option to start another mission when you finish a mission, without the hangar in between. So you keep your ship and gear as it is and just keep going.
- A dedicated Endless mission, where the jump map goes on forever until you die
The first option sounds better imo
There will be multiple ways to do it
I don't think the second mode would be very popular since even normal missions can take up to 2 hours, and very little people can play longer than that at a time, unless you could save a run and continue the next day
but options are always nice so if it's easy to add those modes to the game then why not
That's fair. I think it'd be fun to give people the option, for those sickos who want to marathon and beat their high score. We currently don't have a "high score" thing to beat, it's just a great thing to give to players who want to beat their personal bests
I was drawing a bit of inspiration from deep rock galactic: survivor
We're going to have a very wide playerbase, I have learnt not to underestimate just how differently people can approach a game in terms of what they want to do and how they play
oh damn haha
Yeah there seems to be two camps
the roguelike camp and the no roguelike camp. The problem with no roguelike is you need to still have something to work for. Which means the devs will have to keep working on progression goals
you keep forgetting the third camp, the rogueLITE camp, it's only a bit different but i personally hate roguelikes and love roguelites
I generally just use the term about games with roguelike elements
You shouldn't when discussing it
There's a notable difference
I personally enjoy the limited reset and randomness
Not sure id enjoy the full reset
Both can be fun I think. But in general I value replayability a lot which prefers as much be reset as possible
Like Enter the Gungeon's way of doing it where you just unlock more stuff to appear in the game is a good way of doing it
I very much enjoy having something to work towards. Upgrading the components in the demo was what me and my friends went for
yea roguelikes get completely reset and roguelites have some kind of progression that never gets reset
The problem with roruglites is that often you end up overpowered and basically beat the game just by dying over and over and over
roguelike's are a lot more replayable.
Enter the Gungeon's way of doing it is a good one where you just unlock more stuff that appear on runs. Nothing that improves your stats or skills
