#AI voice acting

The ai voice acting should be removed sooner rather than later. I know a number of people who refused to try the demo because of it. I think it would be better for the health of the game to remove the ai voice acting outright, and fill it in with voice actors as able through the updates.

I would be most happy to help with the voice acting!! Just DM me 🙂

yeah, i had a few friends who got the ick that they used AI (me included at first), but thankfully pretty much all of them were still happy to try the game when i said its all placeholder

so i hope they get that done before early access

they can remove the ai voice, you got 100.000 bucks spare to give them to hire some actors to do temporary lines that will be removed every couple of versions?

#

they are a small team, they don't have inhouse voice actors that can do some temp lines quickly

unreal cedar
#

and you dont miss out on potential buyers by cheaping out on AI, so it might even pay off in itself, if you get even a handful of extra buyers by moving away from AI

#

its not like indie games didnt have voice acting before AI became a thing either

People whine about the dumbest shit. It's literally there until they can get someone and the script is written. If that triggers you over ai then just go somewhere else. You're just unreasonable at that point.

Telling someone to leave a conversation or community simply because you disagree with them is rude and downright disrespectful. Everyone here is entitled to their own opinions and as this is a forum asking about how they could improve the game, there are few wrong answers anyway.

If they're so bothered by ai being used in a decent way then they should go play something else. This game will turn voices to real actors as they can. They're not some evil group of penny pinchers trying to squeeze every last cent. And if that bothers you then you're choosing to let it or are just wildly ignorant. And if pointing that out is rude? Too bad.

ok lets go with you on this one, what about the fact that the game is probably completed less than 10% atm and the studio they dont even know what they want actors to say

#

they are supposed to pay every time they change a word ?

#

how is that helping ?

#

i will be completely honest here, to me y'all just sound like a bunch of overprivileged kids with zero idea of how the real world works

Not sure where all this negativity is coming from, I love the game and would like to be part of it, I never said anything about when they needed to get some VA's in. Chill dude.

Man oh man. I have not seen so much hate, and despise, over a temporary ordeal that has been mentioned time and time again that their is currently a process to get actual voice actors. From the sounds of it all, it would appear that it would have been better for the 16 devs working on the game to put in their own voices than use a placeholder of an augmented voice to give the game a little more life. Heaven forbid a moment to allow them to use something, in their own tool house, to provide a glimpse of life in their game... apparently even using AI stopped people from touching the demo. I'd be more understanding if the game went straight to shelves as is with AI voices and no changes... like *cough" Bungie's Marathon cough (luckily they pulled back and are delaying that crap shoot of a game) but it still stands. This argument is made... and won. The devs are getting Voice Actors and stepping away from the AI... I am happy they even said they were using AI voices. They could have kept it quiet and have us, the players, find out and be mad and upset; but they did not. So now, while the game is still developing, even in early access, they are working on it and we, the players, can keep them honest. These devs are amazing, and have put a ton of hours into this amazing game, and I do not see that time going to waste especially with all the dedication put into this project. So, breathe, take a beat, and just allow the placeholders for a moment while they figure out who they want to be the VA for their emaculate dream.

Wait... The voices were ai?

I didn't even notice

# fair heart I mean, I wasn't sitting there thinking "this voice better be human" so 🤷‍♂️ I...

Honestly, I did not go looking for it. It wasn't until the devs mentioned it and I went back into the game that I heard it. But at the same time I was thinking to myself that BU-D3 and Iris, the core, are robots and thought that they are AI so it kind of makes sense.

Though having a real person is always a better choice. Bring the voice actor of Gladus... if need be. LOL!! Beacuse... you know, the CAKE is a lie. haha

# fair heart So I question how many people would really have noticed if they hadn't said anyt...

That is what I am saying!!! haha!

Though a good amount of people, even mentioned here on their very own Discord, wouldn't touch the game knowing they used AI for the voices. Like remove that silver spoon from your behind and enjoy the other 90% of the game allotted to you to enjoy.

Too many "privileged" people.

Looking forward to who they will choose for the voice acting. Also, what are the lines they will have them say... hopefully more than the same 5 lines they currently have in the placeholder.

Not going to moderate anything but just wanted to clarify info that may be missing for some:
The demo already featured paid voice actors, so the process to replace placeholders has already started

I will voice act for free lmao

# steep arrow Is there anywhere I can apply?

Community voice acting isn't something we're considering at the moment, there's tons of work to manage something like that.
So currently no, but if a new NPC or something comes up in the future that could be cool to do auditions for, we'll let the community know.

As I know this is being addressed this comes with no bitterness from my end, but hiring real voice actors for all spoken roles and replacing AI stand-ins for the final product is something that is very high priority on the requirements for my enjoyment of the game and my likelihood to recommend it to others. I thank you for your transparency in the process, and look forward to seeing where the game goes from here, as the beta was a lot of fun.

Of all the things I care about, this is at the bottom of the list. Do I hope they end up with some amazing voice actors late in the EA phase? Hell yeah.

AI is used at EVERY phase of almost every programming project nowadays. You program with AI, you test with AI... I never hear anyone throwing a fit over those, but they throw a fit over not hiring voice actors? I've seen too many translations be intentionally mistranslated by voice talent to care whether this is put in place before it's ready to go live. And ideally by actual professionals, not bargain basement 'actors' that do little better than what fans offering to do the voice acting for free would do.

Honestly don't really care about the use of AI assets, as long as it isn't slop. Slop being pictures of people with 6 fingers.

It still seems to be A.I. unfortunately. At least in the prologue. I played the demo and booted up the EA release today. They did say at some point it'll be replaced. I hope they'll keep their word on that

I just saw the post about the demo having some voices already replaced. I was under the impression they were all A.I. at the time. Glad to know its being worked on!

The only AI voice I remember from the demo was Iris and the suit guy, maybe Buddy. Suit Guy has indeed been given a proper voice.

I think it may be a narrative choice that Iris still has an AI voice, cuz she is artificial.

Boz amd berrit were fully voiced for the demo

Iris honestly sounds like she has a VA

#

While I agree with AI voices not being the best, I think it's stupid to straight up refuse to play the demo/game only because of that. AI can be a quite useful tool, specially for small producers/studios

I feel like adding in VAs would probably make the game much more expensive than it ended up being. I know VAs aren't the most wealthy of the entertainment industry, that's still that much more that's needing to be spent on development. It's not like AI voices are a new thing that's been around stealing VA jobs. A very fair amount of older Macs had AI voices that would even tell the time for you whenever you wanted. Overall; not really a good enough reason to boycott playing the game by any means. Could be that they just wanted a more robotic/dystopian feel for the voices that doesn't come with a real person. 🤷‍♂️

I don't really understand why you would care that there are AI voice actors in a game that is EARLY access. Christ, if getting voice actors in place was their highest priority I would be seriously worried about the development of this game. Focus on getting content and full story line in place then they can start thinking about replacing AI voices.

Ima be honest, the ai voice acting is fine. Quite a bit stiff, but if it means is that they can use the funds to hire actual voice actors later on then im ok wit it. Especially since it doesn’t sound like the annoying ai voice that every damn channel uses on YouTube/tiktok
