#Knight accolades are a Sisyphean task

I mentioned it in chat and liked the analogy so I decided to make this idea official in feedback cause really this whole tedium of "raise the knight to x level only for them to die and go even lower than it started" does feel like a punishment from the House of Hades.

Just like Sysiphus and his boulder we are given a task to raise our beloved knight to the highest peak, and some work hard, constantly hosting activities and tournaments and non stop battles and somehow manage to reach the top. Then you have some like me who can barely reach the halfway point by casually doing those things. Still the Gods care not which you are because your knight will die of old age and the glory will fall down back to square one. Just like the boulder, you need to keep doing it all over again. Those who work harder of course only fall to the midway point or something compared but still I imagine it gets pretty tedious after a while even for them. Especially since if you slip up and stop focusing all efforts on gaining glory then all the effort you've done in the past trying for your knight to be the very best was for naught.

And while the death spiral when a knight dies and a successor is old or weak and they all die in short succession seems to be part of the problem I think an issue also lies with thr fact that its purely up to us to raise our knights glory. Like, they're the acclaimed knights its them who should be seeking out tournaments and hunts to participate in. But no if we don't do anything they'll sit there in our courts lazily waiting for us to throw them a bone.

I don't think Accolades are intended to go to level 6 fast or anything. They cost a pitiful amount of prestige after all, I think they are more "fire and forget" and if you do get glory because of farming tournaments and wars it's a plus.

But if you "fire and forget" it then you'll never actually have them at level 6. Hell Id say level 5 is questionable because if you dont micromanage them they lose more glory than they'll ever gain in one lifetime.

#

For a good example that happened just now. One knight died of old age and that threw the accolade down two ranks and Im trying to micromanage it so its as high as possible

I'm fine with exceptional ranks only being available in exceptional circumstances tbh. If the ranks are too easy to fill, it's just another grind... Like, what I mean is, rank 6 should be exceptional, y'know ? You should go "Oh sh*t, I got a badass over here !". If the maximum rank is attained, you wouldn't care about getting more, which would be a shame imo

They dont feel like badasses at all. The difference between rank 3 and rank 6 is like a 10% boost in some cases. And because gaining glory is so slow and tedious getting there for a single knight takes them their entire lifetime, leaving them like couple of years basking in the glory they attained before they die of old age and you lose at least 2 ranks and need to babysit them into gaining all this glory all over again

And of course theres the fact that we have to babysit them into gaining that glory. Gods forbid you dont fight alot of wars and your only hope of them gaining any is tournaments most of which they dont get even qualify to compete in. None of the glory they gain is through their own achievements its all on me.

Agree. And it would be nice if instead of the generic "So-and-so is now you acclaimed knight, -1600 glory" there would be a note explaining why they took over and why that much glory was lost. I take care to match both primary and secondary attributes, but sometimes randomly the new knight seems to choose a diffreent secondary attribute (one whivh they also qualify for) and the glory is lost just the same. I've honestly mostly given up on acclaimed knights.

Honestly I just make sure its always a young knight taking over and I do just fine. I find I'll often get more control by letting the accolade go inactive then activating it
