I know libappindicator3 is unmaintained and doesn't support click events. But what about libayatana-appindicator? Xorg?

same for libayatana (which tauri btw also uses since libappindicator3 isn't avail on all systems anymore)

the only real alternative that should also support click events (don't quote me on that) is KDE/freedesktop StatusNotifierItem

With those alternatives that something the tauri team would need to implement? not something a user hack into their gui?

it doesn't require a gtk runtime so it may be simple to add outside of tauri itself than appindicator
