battle scar- rare purple essence

I may just need clarification as to what the rare essences are supposed to give you. My understanding is that they give you battle scars that you don’t have yet. Is that correct?

If so, I did 3x with rare purple and it only gave me one that was new. And the next two were ones I already have.

No, first they give you scars you dont have from the rare smelting list. Then at random from the same list

I just did two more rare fragment trade ins and got two more duplicates (both the one pictured below).

I am still missing some purple scars.
