Consumables are most efficiently used for crit chance and crit damage, Grimoires for armor, crit chance and crit damage.

#Comparing Consumables and Grimoires

in a guide, I would mention that picking vitality/damage on grimoires considering their availability overall compared to any of the other stats is not a good choice
lmk if you want me to remove this reply
That's a good suggestion.
Are there any other poi's providing vitality/dmg other than healing wells and iron maiden? For items, im gonna check the wiki, but I'll probably only mention the legendaries and cursed items (philo stone, cauldron, hungry grass, excalibur, oni mask)
some of the quest provided by heroes might be worth mentioning ?
thirst for immortality being the easy example
for dmg, ogre blood / golden egg can provide 100/200+ without huge RNG, so dmg is definitely not a good pick (outside of specific challenge runs)
I think I'm gonna skip quests and keep it hero independent. Thirst for immortatily is quite the outlier, other quests don't provide big enough of a boost to basically ignore that stat for the rest of the game.
I'll include Ogre blood and golden egg.
@subtle condor I've updated the guide. I've added a new section to cover alternative means to acquire stats and changed the conclusion to explicitely recommend Crit Chance & Crit Dmg for Consumables and Armor, Crit Chance & Crit Dmg for Grimoires.
Thanks for your input and feel free to bring up anything else you notice!
Edit: Originally abbreviated Crit Chance & Crit Dmg as Crit Chance & Dmg, which is rather misleading considering that Dmg is a different option
maybe the refugees are worth mentioning as well ? and similar to the grimoires, vitality is not a great pick there either
hm I don't know the refugees that well, I'd need some help with that. The ones that come to mind are the cursing for dmg, money for crit chance/crit damage
oh right, I read through that yesterday, how could i already forget about it. I'll take a look
I found these 7 villagers, the trades are fairly diverse though. Feels hard to give a general recommendation because you dont necessarily have every refugee and its also random which floor they'll appear on, right?
-dmg/armor -> +money
-curse ability -> dmg
-vitality: +crit chance
-money +4critchance 13crit damage
-100money +10vitality (lol)
-take dmg, gain dmg/armor
-stars of fate +money or consumables
I'd trade 100%
dmg for money
vitality for crit chance
money for crit chance (similar to consumables - if you have golden egg/coin) then crit will be more value than dmg
take dmg - gain dmg/armour
yeah, but does this really affect recommendations for consumables/grimoires?
it's part of the overall picture to me
it was more to answer your question about source of dmg/vitality that I brought up the refugees
it's your guide, so it's for you to decide what's worthy to put inside
definitiely doesnt hurt to have them in this thread.
i've added a reference to the dmg refugee, stars of fate section already mentioned refugees.
crit chance & crit dmg ill skip because while the trade is strong, its almost the only other option to get those stats and not enough to skip them at consumables/grimoirs.
vitality has no good refugee trades if im not mistaken.
i want to add a paragraph about dream shards, would you agree that its only worth taking dream shards at grimoires if you have something specific that you want to buy with it (or are running golden egg i guess)?
if you have hope diamond and/or golden egg super effect
if there is a specific shard threshold in this chapter before it ends (wishing well/vendor option)
otherwise I'd value the crit/rerolls more
personally it would probably be 70% reroll 20% crit 10% armour/shard if I had to guess what I take at grimoires
thanks!
damn thats a lot of rerolls
