Hey guys, I'm not sure if you can help me or if support can answer my question. I updated my Minecraft Java and Bedrock servers to version 26.1.2, and now I can only log in through Bedrock, not Java. I don't know if I have to wait for a Geyser update or something, but it's strange. When I log in through Bedrock, it looks like a new account and I don't have my items, but all my world progress is saved. I'm guessing it's because my name on Bedrock started with a period (.), for example, .hichezz12, and now it just shows hichezz12. I think it's detecting me as a new player because there's no Java account, or at least I think so. Anyway, I get the typical "(timed out)" message. I don't want to lose anything in my world. If you could help me or tell me I just have to wait for an update, that would be great. Thanks!

Hi Support,

I need urgent help because I can no longer join my server using Minecraft Java Edition since I updated to the latest version.

The main issues are:

Java Connection: Before the update, everything worked fine. Now, every time I try to join via Java, I get a "Connection Timed Out" error. I have not changed my network settings or used a VPN.

Bedrock Identity: I can only join via Bedrock, but my progress is gone. My username used to have a dot prefix (e.g., .rpepotitos) and now it doesn't. This confirms the server is not recognizing my original Java-linked profile through GeyserMC/Floodgate.

Steps taken:

I updated the server software to the latest version (PaperMC 1.21.1).

I confirmed that the issue started exactly after this update.

no, Aternos bundles floodgate into geysermc, but since you run a java 26.x server you need the geyser PREVIEW

Geyser is not released yet for java 26.x servers.There is a preview build availible on Aternos. Its not feature complete,but it should work.
Make sure your server is stopped.
Delete Geyser-Spigot and Floodgate-Spigot JAR's from https://aternos.org/files/plugins/
The folders can be left alone, they contain just configs. If you have issues you can delete them too.
Install geyser preview from https://aternos.org/addons/a/artemis-bukkit/geyser-preview
And start your server. Now try connecting as usual.

and make sure to NOT use any geyser auto update things, as that will "update" to the current version and delete the installed preview

It's working!! Thanks to your advice I could fix the Java connection and I didn't lose my progress (the dot prefix is back!). Really appreciate the help with the Geyser Preview instructions

ne last question, @acoustic depot How long should I usually wait before updating my server to a new Minecraft version to avoid these issues? I normally just install the regular GeyserMC and didn't know about the Preview versions until today. Is it better to wait a few weeks or months for a full stable release

i usually use a lot more plugins than just geyser, so then its more complicated. Theres no textbook answer to this, but checking the plugins you NEED before trying to update is a good idea

One last thing to be sure: When the stable Geyser version is finally out, do I need to manually delete the Preview .jar file from my plugins folder before installing the stable one? Or does the system handle that automatically?

That’s from Java Edition and Geyser doesn’t do anything related to Java Edition behavior.

Okay, thanks, it let me in. It's strange, I only had to wait 5 minutes and restart the server and it let me in. Well, thanks anyway

@acoustic depot The Paranoid Android, quick update: My Bedrock PC client updated to 26.20, and now I can't join because the current Geyser Preview only supports up to 26.10. I can still join via Java Edition fine, but Bedrock is blocked. Is there a build available that supports 26.20 yet
