#Revamping the Honor System to Prevent Server Stagnation and Player Churn

I am a returning player from 20 years ago, and the current state of the game is concerning. Back then, universes had 10,000+ active players; today, many servers (like Sombrero BR) feel dead, with players hitting the Top 50 in just two months due to massive player churn.
Two main factors are killing the game: extreme Pay-to-Win mechanics and a completely broken Honor System.

Currently, a Top 1 player with 500M points can attack a player with only 2M points, and the system still considers it an 'Honorable Combat.' This is mathematically absurd. It doesn't promote competition; it promotes bullying and forces mid-tier players to delete their accounts, further emptying the servers.

My Suggestion:
The Honor System needs a radical overhaul based on point proportion, not just static military ranks:
Dynamic Honor Scaling: Attacking a player with a massive point deficit (e.g., more than 5x or 10x smaller) should result in massive Honor Point loss, regardless of their military rank.

Meaningful Penalties for Dishonor: Players with negative Honor (Grand Emperors/Bandits) should face severe debuffs that impact their safety, such as:

Increased debris field percentage when their own ships are destroyed.
Higher plunder percentage for anyone attacking them.
Attack/Defense debuffs when engaging significantly weaker targets.
Incentivize Fair Play: Give real buffs (resource production or research speed) to those who maintain high Honor by fighting players within their own point bracket.

If OGame continues to allow 'top predators' to wipe out the remaining player base without consequences, the game will soon have no one left to play but the Top 10. We need a balance that forces top players to compete with each other, not just farm the few active mid-tier players left.

I totally agreed with this !
If you considere other game like Rocket League. Never SSL player will be faced front Platine !
Actually, is totaly normal on ogame.

Ofcourse... We can set a ranked system like RL.

Today, honor point ? Player who have higtest négativ point has totally no care about it.

But... You can just set a ratio between attacker and defender.
With an exponential shape you can easy put back equality when top5 attack top100

Actually, top5 can attack top100 with several thousant ship.

With this kind of ratio, more target is lower than you more you have to put ship in combat.
You can put this ratio on ship speed. Then attacking top 100 will private ship for days.

I really think this kind of ratio will same this game and bring back players !

what the eff are you talking about? i loved it so much with my barely 100k do get wiped from someone with 5 mio .... thats how its intendet. the overpowered wipes the floor with the ... underpowered. thats why i stopped playing after a 15 years pause and retourning to try out the lifeform and classes stuff... shrug. we just need player owned servers with real mechanics made the game to be fun again. get rid of matter-premium and implement a real noob protection that works as base for the honorsystem as well. you should only be able to get attacked by +50% (max 150k) and more then 75% (75k) of your own points. anything else should be dishonorable big time. but i like the positive and negative honor point-buff/debuffs you mentioned. but i also have a question: how do you prevent forest fires abusing that??

Thanks for the inputs! To answer the question about abusing the system: the goal isn't to make anyone 'invincible', but to make the cost of 'bullying' higher than the reward. If a Top 1 wants to wipe a 2M player, they should face a penalty that makes them vulnerable to their own peers (Top 2, 3, 4). The current system protects the giants, not the ecosystem. As Player 1 said, a speed penalty or a real combat debuff would force the 'predators' to actually fight each other to stay efficient, which is what a war game should be about.

However, even though we spend time, energy, and brainpower thinking about how to improve the game for everyone and crafting complex suggestions, it feels like the Gameforge team simply doesn't care. From what I’ve seen on Discord and the forums, there is zero feedback or return on player suggestions. It’s frustrating to see a game we love die because the developers choose to ignore the community in favor of short-term revenue. I am deactivating my account today, but I hope this discussion at least serves as a wake-up call for those who remain.

In this game you can hit the fleet only it sits so the problem is somebody wasn't on account... At first you should look at yourself and your game. Learn from mistakes... This mechanics is from design man

Bashing on def / hitting colo from players with hundreds of thousands RIP can still been seen a design flow.

I had a top AM player telling me to "build more defence if you don't want to be raided"
But totally failing to see whatever the number of def a F2P player like myself build, there is no way I can keep an account like him at bay : he'll always make 0 lose and some profit on crawler at least, + solar sat and a few ressources .

if he can't keep a moral code like "I'll not come for less than X", then it'll just be a bashing of helpless player who can't do anything to avoid that

You can do a lot of things, this is strategy game - part of it is thinking... Honestly, I'm tired of comments like - delete this, forbid that, restrict something. Maybe we should look for solutions that give everyone a chance to have fun? The problem isn't that someone is fleeter. If player want to be fleeter, which has been a part of the game from the very beginning, must attack another player. Ogame doesn't give fleeter a choice. The PvE/NPC issue has been raised so many times. Why can't a fleeter attack aliens or pirates? Their planets could be located in 16 positions and visible only to the general class. I guarantee you, many players would gladly take advantage of this. Everyone really just wants to earn to develop their account within the time they can dedicate to the game. Doing quests would be more effective than chasing someone across the server.

You have a problem with DS whay not change the acs rules - 15 players against one big... Why not?

#

Let's start working on making the game more interesting and giving everyone choices. Let's stop mindlessly making it easier...

#

or another - real noob protection that teaches the game but gives a chance to the newbie - 100% refund of destroyed ships plus you can't rob resources up to 50kk total account points, attacker will have only debris
