the rifleman 3N "shuttlecock" was an attempt by the "Marchand Security company" to design a "improved rifleman that better fit's it's roles, both real and forced into" in 3010, doing so by dropping down the firepower of the autocannons, to better allow installation of heatsinks and armor. this variant gained the nickname in the forces using it, after the mech's offensive capacity to send aerotech assets back around in combat compared to the original's rather restrictive capacity of ammunition

as for a second variant, made in 3022, the shuttlecock II is a offensively focused compromise built to specifically compromise between the 3C and 4D in such a way to keep the mech a long ranged terror, while significantly increasing the mech's durability. in attempting to achieve this goal the refit attempted to become something of a "pocket warhammer" to which this gained relatively promising results, dropping the large lasers of the the 4D model's rather heat intensive loadout to better allow the addition of a brace of 4 medium lasers, a small laser, and 3 more heatsinks in a attempt to better compensate with this increased heat profile. while the goal was achieved, the Marchand security company would be wiped to a man during the 4th succession war.

built in the early 3050's, the rifleman 5M birdstrike was built by "John Giskra's armored corp" as a refit built to improve the rifleman 5M's somewhat lacking autocannon ammunition and the increased range profile clans were precieved to have. it's increased armor often threw off flankers, whom would often mistake the mech for something of a easy mark. it would see use in operation guerrero, being part of the second line, often killing aerospace assets long before the units expected to be in danger of being shot.
