Not to be confused with the hermes 3S of the original hermes chassis in the 3040's, the hermes II 3S was built to decrease repair time and increase survivability on the hermes II chassis on the hermes II chassis. unfortunately, due to the scarcity of reliable production of PPC's in the free worlds league, the refit was not approved within house marik's territory, however, this variant became very common within kurita territory in the era of the post 4th succession war era, due to alliance made with the rest of the sphere against house davion and steiner.

the hermes II 5MEr, is a variant made from salvage of the original 5ME. this model, typically made with spare heatsinks from the 2S, and the ammunition and autocannon from the marauder 5M, sees common pairing with the original mercury elite as a bodyguard and forward observation unit. this refit saw some fame with operation guerrero, where the autocannon's cluster rounds often complimented the various heavier direct fire weapons of the free worlds league forces.

this variant, the hermes 5SM, was a variant attempting to give the design flight and a lower cost supplement for the phoenix hawk in roles not meant for command. for this fact, the design would proceed to add a compliment of jump jets and a replacement of the ultra autocannon with a ER large laser, along side a second medium pulse laser. due to these modifications and the wing-like profile the torso mounted jump jets gave it, the variant would occasionally be called a "Icarus refit" in requisition logs. the utility of the design would see purchase and some light use by the word of blake, eventually being made into the 5C refit. this variant would see use by several factions of the free worlds league during the dark age.

built with inspiration of the hermes II mercury, the hermes II Mercury III attempts to provide the design a capable, reliable, and relatively efficient skirmisher, scout, and skirmisher, though many commanders deride it's lack of effective electronic warfare equipment, and the clinging to "legacy" equipment such as machineguns for infantry clearing. this would see a further refit to achieve this goal, with the price further balloning in the process by a extra roughly 3 thousand cbills, though it's users often skip that refit for logistical concerns.

the Hermes II Mercury III MS, is a further improvement on the mercury III, attempting to reallocate weight to better suit the chassis role as a high speed interceptor, scout, and light hunter, giving the mech a full ECM compliment to better serve these roles. many mechwarriors however tended to kvetch about the price, complaining that such increases in cost would likely come out of their payment, and that the increases in the protection of the armor was miniscule at best, even with the increase in it's weight. later on, mechwarriors would begin to appreciate the increased protection the electronic warfare equipment provided to the mech, giving the mech the nickname "the Atreus Arrow" for it's ability to stealthily perform a duty as a scout despite it's size and weight
