#Neo80/75CU alternatives

Aloha everyone,

Next month, I will be in Tokyo and plan to hit up the Yushakobo in Akiba.

I am looking to build my first and (hopefully) my last custom keyboard, end game. I will be using this keyboard daily for years, for gaming, typing, and just general use all around.

I love the form factor of the QK Neo80. However, I like the Neo75Cu with its copper base. I would wait for a Neo80Cu if it's coming this year, but I don't want to wait any longer.

No matter what case I get, I will be pairing it with JTK Night Sakura keycaps to match my SFF PC case cerakoted with sakura trees on it. I don't mind getting the case in some random/obscure color, as then I could have it cerakoted as well to match my PC case.

What alternatives would there be for a Neo80 that supports 2.4Ghz wireless?

Apologies for any formatting issues, I wrote this on mobile.

I can’t help a lot as we speak already about those

#

But I will be here to assist

If it means anything at all, I've used a fair share of gaming keyboards, but I'm looking for something nicer and more refined.

I've been using a Corsair K100 Air for a little over 15 months now, and I don't really have many complaints about it.

Ideally, I would pair tactile keys with the board. I'm open to full sized boards as well.

I've soldered a few things before as part of 3d printing projects and I know how to do it, albeit very poorly. Hotswap PCBs are my preference.

Thank you for the help in advance!

Bonus points if I can find the case/PCB in Japan and get it tax-free.
I don't really have a fixed budget, but nothing insane like $1,000.

I would like to keep it within $500, however if there is a much nicer board slightly outside of that price range I don't mind splurging, given this board will be in use for years to come.

You can get something like a pt 1/75 for around $250?
Or you should be able to find f1s for around that price

#

Not sure who the local vendor is for Japan

Case looks sweet. However, is there any 2.4 wireless PCB that would work in this case?

no

#

most wireless in customs is not that great, which is why you see a lot of wired

#

there is good wireless but right now only in 60/65 with ZMK powered boards

#

wireless in customs is more of a novelty, and a lot of the cheap amazon keyboards focus on wireless a lot

cold scarab
#

And it would not work too well cause you would need to get custom batteries made to be able to fit in that case

I heard there is in fact a neo 80 cu coming. I don't remember where I heard this (probably in this server tho) and when it's coming

@warm wraith what's your expectation with coming to japan and getting a keyboard?

#

most keyboard stuff are chinese - and everything that can be imported to japan can also be imported to all over the world anyway

#

if you've never went to a mechanical keyboard brick and mortar store then yushakobo is pretty fascinating

#

but nothing there can't be bought online

#

sadly nothing there screams end game either

#

they have no neo stuff

#

they had meletrix stuff

warm wraith

#

hmm ok

#

I don't know if they still have their switch board or not

#

and if it's updated or not

warm wraith
#

I've been to maybe 1/3rd of all the microcenters and all of them are missing half the keycaps on their testers

pure pivot
#

last time I went there was like a few months back and they barely have any new switches on their switch board

warm wraith

#

yusha will have a lot of switches then to check out but keyboard wise, nothing special

pure pivot
#

yea last time I went there it was so disappointing, like, missing switches and keycaps

#

I wonder if milktooth still do switch samplers

#

I mean yeah do give them a visit

#

but don't set a high expectation of coming out from the shop carrying your endgame

warm wraith
#

Are there any other brick and mortar stores in the Tokyo area or just yusha

warm wraith
burnt wraith
#

they are not going to sell anything special

#

bic camera and many electronic stores at most sell keychron

pure pivot
#

yep

warm wraith
#

I asked in the QK discord and they said Neo80CU will launch within a year if they have the production capacity

pure pivot
#

it's pretty fun going around electronics stores testing around

burnt wraith
#

but you wont find anything special and even less options since a lot of what they carry are for the average japanese

#

which means a lot of japanese layout keyboards

warm wraith
#

I was in Tokyo in March but going back to check this place out

burnt wraith
#

yeah yodobashi is just another normal electronics store

#

custom keyboards is still a rather new and small community in japan

warm wraith
burnt wraith

most people in japan that do get into custom keyboards are engineers who end up designing their own ergonomic keyboard

malaysia and singapore got pretty nice brick and mortar kb shops
