I have a machine! I measure the embroidery line width and do several tests on scrap fabric to be sure I get the positioning correct.
It's certainly not perfect (I use FOS software with kinda basic options to digitize my embroidery designs) but some fiddling makes it look okay!

Check with your local print/tee shirt shop to see if they are willing to digitize & embroider your design! It will cost a bit, but if you want a design without having a machine, that would be the way to do it!
Also some libraries have may machines for use, depending on how cool your library is.

Do you have a machine with a zigzag stitch option?
If you do, takedown the fabric where you want it to be and stitch over it twice with a straight-stitch. Then trim the excess fabric off.
Then use the zigzag stitch on the shortest stitch length you can and go across the straight-stitch you just trimmed down!

EDIT: You can use dryer sheets as stabilizer on the back if you don't have "real" stabilizer.

probably not much :) maybe a fat quarter or fat eighth for the body material and a square of everything else (feet, inner ear, face white)

it's your first custom I'd reccommend around 10"x10" of a single colour so you've got plenty of spare fabric to work out a pattern with
don't worry too much about it being perfect, just try to get a feel for the shape of it

Would iron-on patches work on a ouioui and has anyone tried?

I have a couple of rlly rlly tiny patches that are coming that I wanna iron on a ouioui but im worried it wont work cos there’s another step where you have to iron the back of the material ur patch is on

yes I use running stitch. I always forget to do backstitch. I still love how scuffed they look. However, the visible strings and stuff are bad so I will try to use backstitching in future ouis!

nah the biggest benefit to backstitching imo is the strength of the stitch that way you can tug and yank at it a little more without the stitching breaking

Ladder stitch hides stitches!
But you'll want to sew your guy inside-out with the backstitch, leave a lil hole, then turn them right-side out and finish them off. (:

You know.. I actually started making customs because I frequently watched over my many nieces and nephews. They saw my Shroompy and would beg to play with them, but then they'd fight on who would get them.
I couldn't spend that much money on more back then, so.. i made everyone their own.
There's Picklepy, Pigpy (light pink), Grapepy, Stinkerpy, Snowpy, and Poopy.
They are all very well-loved by now, and most of the kids are older or have moved away now.
I still have them all.

Yeah.. I like making customs. I'd give away a million, if I could. I want all the kids (and grown-up kids) to have fun together and have something made special just for them.

I did 2 ovals, stuff them, then stitch them to the face along the ends of the mouth

There’s also many other patterns that create the same result, but ultimately the 4s are the easiest to work with, but I’ve personally been using the dome pattern recently. It’s all about personal preference and predicting what shape your patterns will come out in, since I personally found the 4s to be to unpredictable with shapes like ovals, but it’s ultimately up to you, just sharing this to give others some options

Although if you are trying to sew a perfect sphere, the cylinder and pillow aren’t the best to use on this chart, but I guess that’s someone visible. Same with the Drawstring purse only because it’s a purse and not a actual pattern

From what I’ve heard, people who were selling fully homemade itemlabel plushies started getting their stuff pulled to protect itemlabel’s IP (they are legally required to enforce it to maintain rights over their works) but if you edit an itemlabel plush you bought its more acceptable

Before that causes any panic though, this applies to sales and trades. If you are making something for yourself or gift a custom plush to a friend that’s out of scope for enforcement if I am understanding correctly

We're not allowed to share patterns because they could be used for bootlegging, but most people start by measuring their plushies to estimate size. If you wanna make a peepy next, definitely look into different ways to sew spheres, should be pretty easy to find one similar to peepy construction

i use tiny scissors i dont use for cutting anything other than minky, to keep sharp. for the lint, buy some lint rollers. easier cleanup than other ways.

unless someone knows a non-destructive way, you want to break off the stopper disc on the backside so you can safely slide out the eyes off the oui without damaging the fabric.

also to attach things to a flat surface, i would recommend looking up a ladder stitch !

peepy mouth is a piece of felt sandwhiched between the two beeak pieces!

while ouioui mouth thread is hand stitched thread ontop of the finished beak! style varies from series to series.

with painted safety eyes, most things look a bit different than with clear ones like itemlabel uses.
maybe thats throwing you off? its a cute lil fella

so yes one problem is that he is perfect,

|| but i think uneven thread tension might be another? with hand-sewing, things can get a little uneven pretty easily. i find this is especially true with the ladder stitch phase of sewing plushies. also, minky is a bit of a bitch because of its stretchy properties as a fabric. i think that makes tension issues more likely. maybe there are handsewing stitches that are best suited to minky, my guess is backstitch.
you might also have success with clearly marking your pattern pieces on the wrong side of the fabric with a fine fabric pen so you know exactly where along the seam allowance that you need to sew. ||

||in my experience, tension is less of a concern when you keep the stitch distance consistent. especially small pieces & curves look alot smoother if you stitch like 3mm appart for them. at least thats what did the trick when i had to work on extremely fine small details on stuff.||

ngl alot just comes down to practice. simply getting used to things helps when sewing.
