I have an existing MF profile which combines 4 devices and it works.
I just purchased a new device and the maker sent me the file.
I am following the directions on the MF page (https://docs.mobiflight.com/features/profiles/) to add the profile to the current one. That does not work.
What am I doing wrong? please and thank you

Using profiles in MobiFlight.

dark prism
#

did you load the new profile to a separate tab?

bold vessel
#

yes. Tried to save and either

#

1-the new file replaces the existing file or
2-the new file does nothing

bold vessel
dark prism
#

which version of MF please?

bold vessel
dark prism
#

ok

#

You load your old profile first

bold vessel
#

yes. it is loaded now

dark prism
#

press the + to open a new tab

#

select from existing project

bold vessel
#

ok

dark prism
#

now select the new profile

#

and press OK

bold vessel
#

ok. done and done

#

I see the current profile tab and the "new" profile tab

dark prism
#

do you see the new profile loaded in the new tab and the old profile in the other tab?

bold vessel
#

hang on trying to grab a screen shot

dark prism
#

you can use the Windows snipping tool to clip parts of the screen

#

and paste directly to Discord

#

Win+shift+s also works

bold vessel
#

ah, duh now why didnt I think of that. Will remember that!

bold vessel
dark prism
#

are all controllers old and new plugged in?

bold vessel
#

yes

dark prism
#

if so, Mobiflight probably already assigned the configs from the new profile to the new hardware

#

go to the new tab

#

and open a input config

bold vessel
#

ok. you mean click on "add input config"

#

?

dark prism
#

no

bold vessel
#

I did that and the "Input Config Wizard" popped up

dark prism
#

just open an existing input

#

ok... just to check

#

with this new input config

#

try pressing Scan for input

#

and press a button in the new panel

bold vessel
#

ok. I do not see "scan for input" with the tab open.
when i select a switch on the new panel, the action displays in the area at the bottom of the tab

dark prism
#

yeah, but the idea was to verify that a button press is actually registered by Mobiflight as an input

#

before going on, please save the project under a new file mfprof file name.

bold vessel
#

or save them both? how do i save them both together? that used to be "merge" but I do not see merge anymore

dark prism
#

no... you should save the new combined project into a new file

#

the merged project is now a separate entity from its two component files.

bold vessel
#

ok. so, step by step, what do I do? I have the new tab up and open. the current tab is still there. how do i save both into a new project?

dark prism
#

Go to File - Save as...

bold vessel
#

ok done

dark prism
#

ok... now test to see if the two panels work

bold vessel
#

ok hang on one sec

#

ok, it is not working. all of the inputs are registering in MF but in the game (XP12, Zibo) only the old panels work.

#

should I close the 2 profiles in MF and then LOAD the new project first?

dark prism
#

Yes you should load from now on the merged project file. Are you sure the project file you were given is for this specific aircraft?

#

In your screenshot, I saw PMDG 737.

bold vessel
#

hmmmm

#

yes it does. I use Zibo. Ineed to ask

#

ok, when I try to Open the new project, both tabs show up again

bold vessel
#

I reached out and I think this guy is in Europe

#

wait nevermind, he's in Australia so maybe here shortly he will reply.

dark prism
bold vessel
#

I did. the current one is named "ALL_20260209" and the new one is the one with "PMDG" in the name.

bold vessel
#

yeah ok so the guy sent me a file that is for zibo 737 in XP12. I tried the exact steps and it still does not work.
Is there a step by step or a video somewhere on how to merge the new file types?

dark prism
#

Saying it doesn't work doesn't tell us much. You need to be specific. What did you do that didn't work? What do you mean by didn't work?

bold vessel
#

Yes, I have this page bookmarked and have followed it step by step literally 40-50 times and nothing

dark prism
#

providing screenshots of your issues also helps us troubleshoot better.

dark prism
bold vessel
#

MF knows its there, those inputs in the bottom window are the new device

dark prism
#

What is the new device?

bold vessel
#

the tab that says "Zibo 737" the one that is selected at the top and the inputs are visible in the bottom window

#

the "ALL" profile is all of my other devices/panels that work just fine

dark prism
#

In the screenshot, Mobiflight seems to be in Stop mode... click on the Run green icon in the top bar.

bold vessel
#

running

dark prism
#

Nothing is sent or received from the simulator in Stop mode.

bold vessel
#

Right, I normally have it running.

dark prism
#

ok, so what doesn't work?

bold vessel
#

When I launch XP12 and select the aircraft, the new "Bleed Air" device does not work. All of my other peripherals work fine like normal

dark prism
#

Ok, if the new panel button presses are registered in the log window, then you need to check that the command given for that button is correct for the simulator and function that is intended to control

#

If this is a commercial panel, then the vendor should provide you with support for this project file.

bold vessel
#

when I select the "Module" drop down list and select the new "Bleed Air" device, the other settings/commands disappear

#

like this

dark prism
#

go to Extras - Controller bindings

#

send screenshot

bold vessel
#

opened it

dark prism
#

On the left, are the controllers used in the current profile

#

on the right, you select the actual controller found connected

#

So click on Select a controller... tell me what is offered there

bold vessel
#

I selected the "Bleed Air Combo" on the right side. Do I select "Apply Changes" now?

dark prism
#

ok now press Apply changes

#

that should assign all the inputs and outputs to the correct controller

bold vessel
#

ok selected apply changes

dark prism
#

don't forget to save the file now after all these changes

bold vessel
#

saved

dark prism
#

Now try running again

bold vessel
#

hang on, in the window at the bottom, I just noticed it says "Problem setting input type ComboBox. Switch"

#

does that mean anything or just try it?

dark prism
#

ignore that

bold vessel
#

ok launching now

#

did not work. the new "bleed air" device did not work. All of my other MF devices continue to work nicely.

dark prism
#

open again one input... the device should be already selected

bold vessel
#

select "add input config"?

dark prism
#

no new input

#

old input in the bleed panel tab

bold vessel
#

You mean from the File menu?

dark prism
#

no, from the main list

bold vessel
#

sorry I am not a developer or engineer

dark prism
#

just pick one of the input lines that are not working

bold vessel
#

OK. I have selected the first line and it is highlighted

dark prism
#

open it

bold vessel
#

OK. I double-clicked it, it is empty.

dark prism
#

open the second dropdown menu and select the correct button

bold vessel
#

ok. I completed that step

dark prism
#

or simply press Scan for Input

bold vessel
#

yeah, scan for input does not work either, tried that 20 times.

dark prism
#

you press Scan for input and press the button in the panel

#

the button press is detected and assigned to this config

bold vessel
#

alright. Then select OK?

dark prism
#

no

#

after you select the button... did the rest of the input config appear?

bold vessel
#

yes, it auto-completed/auto-filled in

dark prism
#

ok, press ok and return to main list

#

it sounds like the profile you were given does not contain the exact device names used in the hardware profile

bold vessel
#

ok back to teh main list

#

ok. so repeat that step for all of the inputs listed?

dark prism
#

I am afraid so. If the names of the devices match, Mobiflight would auto assign all the buttons to their respective input configs. That did not happen

bold vessel
#

ah, ok. I see. Let me try one or two to make sure I dont mess it up

dark prism
#

out of curiosity, can you please also post a screenshot of Mobiflight Modules with the Bleed panel arduino open, so that I can see the device list configured for the hardware?

bold vessel
#

is this what you mean?

#

I know what an Arduino is and what it does, but that's about it

#

I have programmed each switch, should I launch the game now?

dark prism
#

No... go to Extras - Settings and click on Mobiflight Modules tab

dark prism
#

dont forget to save the project file

bold vessel
#

here it is. one of the devices is missing but it works

dark prism
#

click on the plus sign to open the device list

bold vessel
#

didnt work again, but I think I may have the incorrect binding. Trying again with different keys

#

a black X is over top of some of the device switches now

dark prism
#

do you have the correct event for the sim function?

bold vessel
#

trying to find it now

#

going through the list of XP12 datarefs

#

sorry its going slow. Im just a plug-and-play guy. alot of lines

#

OK. I think I found the correct dataref for the wing anti-ice. Now, how to I input that into MF?

#

yeah ok I dont know whats happening MF just crashed. I gotta run thanks for all your help. Maybe if youre around later or tomorrow I will be here trying again.

dark prism
#

ok good luck

bold vessel
#

Hello. Are you still around?
I was able to get the device to work, mostly.
Question: one of these panels have spring loaded toggle switches for the 737 APU & Engine Generators and Ground Power.
Do you have to do something different to get those to work?

dark prism
#

A spring loaded toggle is just like any push button, so no.

bold vessel
#

should there be a command or dataref in the "On Release" tab?
