#Constant crashes of the app in mid-air

Hello,

the app keeps crashing for me whenever I’m in the air. It feels like it happens about every 10 minutes. I’m flying the FSLABS A321 NEO. Is this a known issue? It doesn’t happen on the ground, only in the air. After restarting the app, everything works fine again.

Thank you very much.

I am using MSFS 2024 with the FSLABS only.

#

you say crash, can you explain exactly, step by step, what happens? I dont want to be annoying, but just to get a clue of what the issue might be

#

also, what hardware do you have set up with MobiFlight?

#

and to make sure we know enough, can you also provide logs?

proven falconBOT
faint notch
#

preferably so that you have logging enabled when this happens and we can hopefully capture it in there. But even just a regular startup and use for a while is likely going to be useful

#

and it is not visible in the system tray but just quits? So you start it again and it starts?

#

let me see the log

#

so there are tons of events from your fcu/efis combo for some reason

#

did you calibrate those in simapp pro?

#

@night adder @visual spade would you have a clue? These are button events so I am a bit confused what this is

#

and they happen several times per second so it clearly is not you doing it

#

I would understand uncalibrated joystick AXIS do this if they jitter and have no "dead-zone" defined in center

keen fern
#

this is a new log I am on final approach

faint notch
#

but these are buttons - so are things flickering like a rave party on the cockpit too?

faint notch
#

lets see what those two tagged have to say

#

because I have seen a bit of this by others too sometimes

#

but if it was everyone I would assume it would be everyone talking about this, but this is something weird

keen fern
faint notch
#

do you get those in the log if you dont press anything?

#

if you view log

#

in the bottom of the window

#

actually View -> Show log panel I think

keen fern
#

this I will get all the time.

faint notch
#

ok hmm

#

can you paste your config?

#

that would be a clue

#

what profile is this?

keen fern
#

This is the profile from FSLABS
But I have to say I have a friend, which is using the Same Profile and its working without Problem for him. I also never had this problem. It started 1 Week ago just out of nowhere

faint notch
#

you could also disable automatic "retrigger action" in settings, and see if the config works without it -it basically syncs configs when you Start (when the flight loads if you have autorun on)

#

but that would only happen once at start

#

and wouldnt cause problems later

keen fern
faint notch
#

hmm, did something change a week ago? like firmware update in wincrtl panels?

#

I mean you just did

#

the mfproj

#

I meant that

keen fern
faint notch
#

hmm, this profile does not have a config called "ALT 1000"

#

or maybe I am blind 😄

keen fern
#

This Is the Black Switch on the ALT in the FCU where you can change between 1000 or 100 feet of change

#

But I will update Firmware there is a Wing Ctrl Update for my FCU

faint notch
#

yea hmm

#

oh that selector yeah

#

I wonder if there is a HOLD event there

#

because it is like a toggle switch - 100 or 1000

#

you said fslabs?

#

where did you download the profile?

keen fern
#

I donwloaded it from the FSLABS forum

faint notch
#

can you give me a link?

#

in case its some issue in the profile it would be good to let the author know too

#

there is a ON HOLD event for Fenix A320 in the 100/1000 switch for some reason

keen fern
faint notch
#

yeah, hmm

#

I hope this was not generated by AI

keen fern
#

But this one I am using is the correct one for 1 MCDU for Captain

keen fern
faint notch
#

yeah, digging up hallucinated events in otherwise working config would not be fun 😄

#

but at least these

#

this screenshot is from the beta so the dialog might look different

#

but

#

this is what triggers the "Executing HOLD" all the time and I want to check if it is in the original file or if it somehow got messed up after you downloaded it to rule out any issue with MF mangling something

#

can you link the thread too?

faint notch
#

maybe the same lvar is used by fenix, not sure

#

because the original file has no "fenix event"

keen fern
faint notch
#

that seems to have the same two onHold events

#

so that would at least spam a (likely non-functional event) that would not do anything in the sim but might upset Simconnect

keen fern
#

I think its the same but with 2 bug fixes. But is it a problem if a controller is missing. The second profile is made for 2 MCDUs. I just have 1?

faint notch
#

yea missing controller just wouldnt get any events for inputs

#

and outputs wouldnt work

#

you can always clean up the unused events by doing a filter in the config list for the missing controller

#

and deleting those

#

like backup the file,

#

then select the missing controllers here

#

like this wrong example

#

then click first row, scroll to end and shift-click to select all, and click the "xxx rows selected" on the top right

#

and "delete selected"

#

to get rid of those you dont use

keen fern
#

A thanks I will try

faint notch
#

but hmm, still I am wondering about the log

keen fern
#

So You think the profile is wrong with the FCU 100 Hold event?

faint notch
#

I mean its for Fenix

#

and I am trying to understand why there would be an event for the 1000ft selector for "on hold"

keen fern
faint notch
#

yea maybe they just had a leftover event there by accident

keen fern
#

ah I understtand

faint notch
#

and it would set the altitude scale to 100 on Fenix

#

which doesnt make sense

#

maybe report to fslabs

#

same is on the ALTITUDE INCR 100

#

I am not sure if this will fix everything but at least it doesnt do anything sensible as far as I can see

#

it is set to repeat every 5 seconds which is also oddly specific since it is not the default

#

do you know if the spoiler and flaps have an axis and also a switch btw?

#

I dont have any winctrl stuff myself

keen fern
faint notch
#

yea that would make sense

#

but hmm, if you set the suspicious OnHold events on the 100 and 1000 toggles to "none"

#

that would be a thing to see

#

but they happened only once per 5 seconds so it sounds weird if that would cause MF to stop / close

keen fern
faint notch
#

and let me know if the firmware update helped

#

and maybe try if the calibration helps if that can be done in simapp?

#

because I remember cases where folks had wildly noisy knobs or photosensors etc in the winwing boeing units (the baro is a potentiometer with spring centering and that was very jittery before it was calibrated for example)

#

OK, I think the rest of the log looks just you pressing stuff and setting things up

#

but it kinda feels unlikely that the once per 5 seconds HOLD event would cause this

keen fern
faint notch
#

it would just do nothing and its not really spamming the interface much either, unless it is triggering some resource issue in MF when it runs the OnHold for hours

#

let me know if removing those helps

#

did you manage to fix the OnHold events from the two configs?

#

I think it was just those two

#

in the meanwhile I will set up a switch to Hold every N seconds here and will see what happens

keen fern
#

Yeah, I also noticed some problems with this app at long flights. Let’s say 3-4 hours the inputs in the MCU and FCU are getting slower and slower and very laggy after some time. Something has to load the cash or memory full I believe.

faint notch
#

yea and this is really good if we discover something

#

and can fix it

keen fern
faint notch
#

yeah no worries, it is also important for us to find issues so that the app will get even better

#

and this getting slower over time is a good clue

#

is it the same profile too?

keen fern
faint notch
#

once you remove those events, it would be good to see if the slowness also disappears

#

it might be related

keen fern
faint notch
#

yea, that other one had the same two HOLD events I think

keen fern
faint notch
#

@night adder @visual spade disregard, sorted.

faint notch
#

@keen fern by the way, when you fly, do you have the config list open in MobiFlight, or do you press "run" from the main "dashboard view?

#

I mean do you press "run" here:

#

or here

#

because this could be an issue, it looks like the big table can sometimes get slow when there are lots of events, and maybe its something that updates fast like the throttle or spoiler or some other axis, or also the HOLD event that keeps adding up, so also try starting from the main view,

#

of course the table should not be slow, but it is also meant for configuring your profile, so it displays a lot of stuff that is not really necessary when you are just flying with the config and not editing it

#

the slowness might come from that - see if it happens if you start mobiflight, select the profile from the list on the "dashboard" and then just press the green "run" button on the big thumbnail tile

keen fern
faint notch
#

ok yeah

#

thanks

faint notch
#

is there anything specific that you can tell when the app crashes?

#

like after a long flight, at certain point or anything that would be a common pattern?

keen fern
faint notch
#

but its after a long time always?

keen fern
faint notch
#

it will be interesting to see if it is also related to the OnHold event being there always firing

#

so when you remove those lets see

keen fern
faint notch
#

hmm

#

even with the OnHold events removed?

#

can you share your exact config and I can have a look if there might be something else that could give a clue

#

also

#

@keen fern if you want, you could give this a try

#

take the latest zip listed in the bottom of the page

#

unzip it to a different folder and open your config in it - it will not overwrite your current mobiflight setup

#

so unzip it and run it from there and let see if that crashes

#

also enable log on that one and lets see if it logs anything

#

if it crashes or stops running

#

make a backup of your config just in case

#

let me know if it works out and whether you encounter a crash

keen fern
visual spade
#

yes

#

i think they changed it at some point

#

i always thought you wouldn't have to be.

#

but i just tried myself and logged out i would get a 404

keen fern
#

I just wonder why I am the only one with that Problem. I first will reinstall Mobiflight again. Maybe this will help. Because I have many frieds which also using this profile and they do not have crashes.

faint notch
#

you are not the only, but one of quite a small number we know of

#

I can share the zip

#

lets see if this works

#

its too large for sharing on discord unfortunately

#

but his PR has a fix for not crashing when something throws an error in a sim event, so its a bit of a random shot but maybe it will log something if something makes it stop

#

and we can have a clue

I had 1 crash this is in the event viewer

keen fern
#

Just for your info. I have many Problems with that clr.dll file...

visual spade
#

@keen fern try to repair/reinstall your .NET Framework Runtime

#

This might be the reason

keen fern
#

@visual spade @faint notch
Hello, and thank you very much for your help.

The issue was actually caused by a corrupted Windows Network/Runtime file. It wasn't an additional file, but version 4, which is built into Windows itself. I repaired Windows, and that fixed the problem.

My Windows 11 installation was completely reinstalled only two months ago. The issue appeared about two weeks ago after a Windows update.

Now I no longer see any related errors in the Event Viewer, and MobiFlight is no longer crashing.
Trying since 3 Hours now.

faint notch
#

oh wow 🙂 I'm glad it worked out!

visual spade
#

@shadow robin we had this suggestion already in our troubleshooting guide - right?

keen fern
#

I did the repair net framework and this command DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth and also this command sfc /scannow
This helped.

visual spade
#

Awesome! I am so glad to hear that

shadow robin
keen fern
#

Just another update. Until now I dont have any crashes any more.

shadow robin
#

I'm going to mark this as solved, glad you got it sorted out. If you need additional support feel free to open a new thread.
