  2. the micro stepping mode set in the driver board.

You first said the wheel turns infinitely and now you say it turns to the wrong side, which is it?

What is the gear ratio (how many turns must the motor make for one turn of the wheel) ?
What is the micro stepping mode of the stepper motor driver (how many step commands must be given for the motor to turn one rotation) ?
which Sim var you are using to drive the stepper?
How many turns does the trim wheel need to make from end to end?

if your stepper rotates the wrong way around, usually it can be reversed if you swap the wires of one coil around.
